Prof Muammer Ozer, DBA Programme Director, was honoured with the President’s Awards this year

To recognise contributions of outstanding faculty that have led to recent success by measures as QS rankings, the University has selected 30 faculty members for The President’s Awards (TPAs). Six CB faculty members were honoured with the award this year.

A tea reception was hosted on 3rd February to celebrate the success of the awardees. Prof Way Kuo, President of CityU, and Prof Arthur Ellis, Provost, gave their welcome remarks in the event.  Prof Jian Lu, Vice-President (Research and Technology), Prof Horace Ip, Vice-President (Student Affairs), Prof Matthew Lee, Vice-President (Development and External Relations), Mr Sunny Lee, Vice-President (Administration), Prof Paul Lam, Chief-of-Staff, Prof Houmin Yan, Dean of CB, and other CityU faculties also attended the event.

The CB faculty members who won TPAs this year are:

Dr Liandong Zhang, Associate Professor of the Department of Accountancy

Dr Zhang successfully demonstrated strong capabilities in both research and teaching. His research performance is extraordinary, and he is widely recognised as a prolific scholar in the years to come. He has eight publications at top-tier accounting and finance journals and has published in the three of the top-four accounting journals, namely The Accounting Review (TAR), Journal of Accounting Research (JAR) and Contemporary Accounting Research (CAR). In addition, he published two papers at the Journal of Financial Economics (JFE), the top-three finance journal. Dr Zhang is also an enthusiastic, inspiring, and committed teacher. He served as supervisor and co-supervisor of several PhD students and showed significant contributions in serving to the Department.

Dr Juan Feng, Associate Professor of the Department of Information Systems

Dr Feng is highly dedicated in teaching as evidence in her excellent teaching evaluation results. Her research performance has been equally outstanding with a number of papers published in top-tier journals, which has won her the College Research Excellence Award 2013 . Dr Feng has served as a programme co-leader of MSc Business Information Systems Programme, contributing to continuous programme development and providing timely advice and feedback to students.

Prof Muammer Ozer, Professor of the Department of Management

Prof Ozer is a well-rounded teacher at multiple levels of teaching with clear evidence in support of his educational philosophy and beliefs. He has developed curriculum innovations and useful resources which reveal the advancement of knowledge in his discipline. He has impressive research output with a number of A+ and A journal papers published in recent years. Prof Ozer also serves as the Director of the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Programme, which is a time-consuming responsibility of high visibility, facing a diverse group of students with high demands. Nonetheless, he has discharged the duty competently, providing personalized academic advice and guidance to students in need. He also provides exceptional service to the Department, College and the University.

Prof Wenyu Dou, Associate Dean (Graduate Programmes) of the College of Business, Professor of the Department of Marketing

Prof Dou has made substantive contributions to postgraduate programmes management. He has been a driver for advances in teaching postgraduate education, bringing the College’s programme, especially the EMBA (Chinese) Programme quality to the next level.

Prof Youhua Frank Chen, Head and Professor of the Department of Management Sciences

Prof Chen is distinguished and productive in high-quality research. He has published 14 UT Dallas papers in premier journals. His research outputs are influential in the field that ten of his papers have been cited over 40 times. In 2014, Prof Chen was awarded a Theme-based Research Project of HK$ 20.45 million, and a research grant of RMB 2.8 million by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Prof Chen also teaches a number of postgraduate programme courses in the College, which are well received by students. Prof Chen has served as the Acting Head and Head of the Department of Management Sciences since 2013. Under his leadership, the Department has been ranked 43rd in QS Would University Rankings by Subject. In all, Prof Chen’s performance and accomplishment has made him stand out and widely recognised with and outside the University.

Prof Tze-kin Alan Wan, Professor of the Department of Management Sciences

Prof Wan has been consistently, highly rated by students for his effective and motivational teaching. His research record in recent years is outstanding, evidenced by a good number of publications in top-tier Statistics and Business Analytics journals. As a senior faculty in the Department, Prof Wan has been playing a leadership role and is taking up many service duties to serve the Department.
