"I joined the prestigious Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program of CityU last year, in the fall of 2017 and I must say I am every bit loving it!
After successfully completing a very coveted Clinical Psychology Master in Consulting, Coaching & Change degree from INSEAD and an MBA degree earlier, and having 22 years of industry experience, I was looking for a program and institution that would provide the right study platform, intellectual intensity and research rigor, that was also practice focused and global. I evaluated half a dozen globally ranked Doctoral/PhD programs and finally settled for the CityU DBA program, that, not only met all my above needs but also brought me closer to the Asian and Chinese Management Thinkers and Researchers – a huge bonus from a learning perspectives, for future.
This introduction would be incomplete without my mention of Prof. Ozer and his very passionate personality, through my appellation and interview process. I still remember one of his last comments during my candidate selection interview – ‘Your research topic, at the end of the day should be what you are passionate about and not anyone else. At CityU we can offer you that.’ I was Sold!!"

“I have worked for two international rating agencies for about 15 years in various roles, including regulatory advisory, credit risk modeling and product management. Throughout my career, I have continued to study in order to keep up with the changing business environment. I already have two master degrees in completely different disciplines! I have asked myself: what should be my next step?
To help me decide, I spoke to several professors who all encouraged me to undertake a DBA which will enable me to focus on researching on practical business issues and also make contributions to the community. I looked up DBA program offerings from different universities and found that CityU DBA has a flexible structure. During a 1:1 meeting with Prof Ozer, he gave me a very comprehensive introduction for the program and, more importantly, I could feel his passion. Additionally, I was impressed that College of Business of CityU has recently climbed up significantly in UT Dallas’s ranking. I knew that’s what I was after.
I am in now and knowing my learning partners is another big plus to me. For completing my DBA journey, support from family, friends, professors, LPs and even colleagues are important, and I am grateful to have all!”

“As a strong advocate of lifelong learning, I chose the DBA over the PhD because the DBA is based on both theory and practical application in its design. It also offers flexibility, which is important for me, as I can work, attend classes, and still be available for my family. Furthermore, the facilities and access to resources at CityU is world class, and this was certainly a deciding factor. The program has been very deliberate in selecting a diverse set of students from different industries – a scenario that broadens my perspective and enhances my learning experience.
I can say that I have made one of the best decisions in my life. Sharing of experience and knowledge within the cohort as well as colleagues at work has taught me to look at issues from various angles. Furthermore, the rigorous approach towards business research has refined my skills of identifying real issues and getting to the crux of the problem. All in all, the program has been of immense benefit to my work.”

"Having worked for more than 20 years managing IT project in the Financial Industry in various roles and responsibilities I decided last year to take a sabbatical break, to start my own consulting business and to go back to university to challenge myself again.
After some research I decided to go for a professional doctorate program. My goal is to combine my extensive work experience with the methodical and rigorous research approach of the DBA program. I want to gain new insights through my research and bring them back into my consulting work.
From the start I was impressed with the set-up, focus and support offered by the CityU DBA program. The professors, my mentor, the learning partners, the university's infrastructure - all orchestrated to ensure that my research journey comes to a successful and rewarding end.
With the depth and breadth of the DBA cohorts it offers a unique and fantastic networking platform across industries, cultural backgrounds and work experiences. Even though each and every one has a unique research topic, the willingness to support and help as well as the community spirit are impressive."

"One of the most distinctive and valuable features of CityU DBA programme is its strong emphasis on applied research. Apart from the learning of essential research concepts and methodologies through classes and assignments, the thesis research under a dedicated supervisor, who in my case is a distinguished professor in the fields of AI and Big Data, is a fascinating study journey that has since deeply enticed and truly excited me. Perhaps the one factor that truly sets the CityU DBA ahead and apart, in my view, is the elite group of learning partners with diverse backgrounds and interests. The engaging and inspiring discussions inside and beyond the classroom have brought me knowledge and insight in areas I have never been exposed to before, from angel fund investment to women leadership, from red wine business to Feng-shui study. These have not only broadened my research perspectives, but at the same time also enriched and stimulated my thoughts on the topics of focus. I very much look forward to continuing this refreshing and rewarding learning process in the time to come."

"The City University of Hong Kong Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program provides the ideal balance of theoretical learning and training in pragmatic, yet scientifically rigorous methodologies of applied business research and problem solving. The innovative teaching approach (spiral learning) championed by the CityU College of Business empowers an individual to expand beyond contributing standard analyses of business events from a historical context (i.e. "what happened?") to researching and determining the "how" and "why" certain business phenomena actually occur. The instruction in the use of practitioner oriented, business research tools enable DBA candidates to transition from passively applying managerial methods to actively contributing in the generation of new knowledge and the creation of commercially valuable business insights and products/services. In an increasingly globalized, technology driven, knowledge based economy, the ability to go beyond applying pre-existing business methodologies to solving new and unforeseen business problems via applied research methods is an extremely valuable skill set. As a Top 100 global research institution, the City University of Hong Kong College of Business provides a rewarding and unparalleled DBA experience that has equipped me to become a "scholar-professional" with new skills to create significant, transformative benefits in my workplace as well as contribute to the knowledge-based society."

"Having earned an MBA, the DBA would be a good complement for me to carry on the study on business strategies that shed lights onto my own business. The DBA programme has opened up my mind and brought me to a new horizon that enhances my coping capability in the shifting business environments. Thanks to the methodologies of study that enrich the way I think -- newer and more in-depth thinking. The business theories in most literature provide useful insights into our daily routines that as a corporation founder has to face, think, review, decide and improve. Professors in class illustrate the theories with many vivid examples of successes and failures of firms that also serve as useful reminders to a businessman like me to take cautions to avoid similar mistakes and ride on the golden opportunities to develop."

“I joined the DBA program in 2017 after a long debate with myself. I faced the choice of cruising peacefully into my retirement versus injecting new vitality into my (professional) life. In the end, my thirst for new knowledge and challenges prevailed.
I had always dreamed of returning to school since receiving my MBA more than 20 years ago. As my experiences, both professional and personal, grew, so did my urge to return to school. Now with three semesters under my belt, I can say that the DBA program has been a perfect fit for me, and that this has been a challenging, stimulating, and enjoyable experience.
I have already learned a lot, even before working on my dissertation. The combination of structured in-class teachings and self-paced reading and research has afforded me the ability to comprehend and appreciate the intricacies of complex academic works. Augmented with my business perspectives, this newly gained lens filters through an expanded worldview for me.
This experience has been hard work, but incredibly rewarding!”
