Frequently Asked Questions
-
I am a non-local applicant, are there any special things I need to pay attention to?
-
If I have a bachelor's degree with second class honours or above and more than 3 years of working experience, can I apply for admission if I don't have a GMAT score?
Although applicants are strongly advised to attain an acceptable GMAT score or the equivalent before submission of application, you may still apply for admission. However, you should indicate on the application form that you are going to take the GMAT and specify the tentative test date. If the Interview Panel considers you suitable for the programme, members will recommend you for admission on a conditional basis. That means you must attain an acceptable GMAT score by a specified date before the academic year starts.
The Programme Director will also consider acceptable score in equivalent from other internationally recognised test if you don't have a GMAT score.
-
What does it mean by second class honours or above?
It is an award classification normally adopted by UK and local universities. The University will use other parameters such as GPA (Grade Point Average) to consider the academic performance of applicants who are graduated from North American universities.
-
Can I take additional courses for the programme?
Yes. If you are approved to take courses that are more than required, additional tuition fees will be charged. All grades attained for additional courses taken will be included in the calculation of Cumulative Grade Point Average, and reflect it in your transcript and final award.
-
How many credits can I transfer to the MBA programme if I hold a relevant master's degree in addition to the first degree?
Participants may be granted credit transfer of up to 50% of the credit requirements of the MBA for equivalent courses completed successfully for a recognised award at postgraduate level in relevant business disciplines.
Before submitting an application, participants should ensure that their previous studies elsewhere are equivalent in level and content to the relevant CityU course. In supporting the applications, the official transcripts (or certified true copies) and other documentation should be submitted to the University. Applications without relevant documents will not be considered.

-
How much time do I need to spend on the courses?
This varies from individual to individual. Effective time management is crucial in pursuing part-time study while having full-time job commitment. Most MBA courses will be delivered in intensive mode while some will follow the normal mode of attendance. For intensive mode, weekly class attendance of two weekday evenings or one weekday evening (normally Thursday) plus one Saturday afternoon is required for 4-week or 6-week courses. For normal mode of attendance, classes are held one weekday evening or one Saturday afternoon each week for a 13-week semester.
-
If I don't have a bachelor's degree but with professional qualifications and substantial managerial experience, can I apply for admission to the programme?
Yes. The Admission Committee will consider these applications on a case by case basis. Please note that acceptable GMAT score or equivalent is still required for these special cases if admission is offered.
-
What is the duration of the programme?
The normal duration for completing the MBA is 2 years with 4 Semesters and 2 Summer Terms for part-time study and 1 year for full-time mode. The maximum and minimum period of study is 4 years and 1 year respectively.
-
What is the total fee of the programme?
The estimated total programme fee will be about HK$153,600 for participants in academic year 2010/2011, inclusive of the cost for the Residential Trip if participants can complete the programme requirements (40 credit units) within the normal duration of part-time or full-time mode of study.
