Venture Capital vs Entrepreneur - Strategies to raise funding from investors

CityU MBA SHARP Forum continues to unfold business frontiers by inviting Mr. Kelvin CHAN (陳金培), Head of Investment of Fosun Hani Securities Ltd., Mr Paul PONG (龐寶林), Managing Director of Pegasus Fund Managers Ltd., and Ms. Juliette GIMENEZ (詹明月), CEO and Co-founder of Goxip, as our panel speakers to discuss the topic: “Venture Capital vs Entrepreneur – Strategies to raise funding from investors” on 8 Dec 2016.

Over 100 audiences participated the event and enjoyed experts’ fundraising experience sharing and tips on venture capital pitching from the perspectives of corporate investors, venture capitalists and entrepreneurs.

Key highlights:

Mr. Kelvin CHAN shared his views as a corporate investor that he reviewed entrepreneurs from different points of view, from macro such as looking into the industry trend to micro like reading business plan in details. He suggested to startup companies that finding strategic partnering investors can add values and skillsets to the company, instead of solely obtaining financial assistance from investor platform like crowdfunding.

Mr. Paul PONG walked the audience through the five fundamentals of attracting venture capital. He also explained the importance of the match between different types of VCs and different financial stages of companies, from seed funding, start-up, 1st stage, 2nd stage or 3rd stage financing, bridge financing and IPOs.

Ms. Juliette GIMENEZ shared her experience in helping to build Ubuyibuy which got acquired by Groupon within months and how her startup Goxip won in the RISE Conference 2015, a startup pitch competition. After all, she told our audience, "People will give different opinions on your business idea. Trust yourself, cos no one will know the core value of your idea better than you."
