CB students win Gold Award at Joint University Outstanding Marketing Award 2015

A team of five third-year undergraduate students from the Department of Marketing and the Department of Management won the Gold Award with a cash prize of HK$10,000 and a 4-day Thailand trip after competing with other four teams in the Joint University Outstanding Marketing Award 2014-2015 (JUOMA). The CB team also won the Best Advertising Video Award.

JUOMA held its closing ceremony and the final round of competition at the CUHK campus on 11th April. The event sponsorship was from Double A (1991) Public Company Limited.

The competition themed ‘Paper Challenge’ recruited candidates from September 2014, and the first round of competition began in November 2014. Participants first submitted an executive summary on How can Double A enhance its awareness and loyalty. 20 teams out of 400 teams were shortlisted to make a one-minute video to promote the company. Five teams of contestants were then selected to enter the final round which included a 20-min presentation based on the previously submitted summary and video.

The winning team shared their thoughts:

Marilyn:
This competition offered us a chance to stand out from 400 teams’ applications. We have gained a lot in the process, not only the prizes but also the experience of turning ideas into practical application. It was a great learning experience.

Peony:
We are happy to receive this award. We made it here not just because of the effort we made. There were people supporting us like our advisers, Mr Alex Tham (Senor Teaching Fellow of the Department of Marketing) and Ms Wisteria Cheung (Senor Teaching Fellow of the Department of Marketing). They gave us lots of valuable advice and coaching when we were preparing the presentation. The cooperation and friendship among us is the most valuable thing that we gained from this competition.

Mandy:
It is a memorable experience. Our passion made us truly devoted in the competition and we enjoyed the whole process! I am also thankful for the advice, opinion, and support given from my professors and friends.

Irene:
I am proud to be the member of this amazing team. Having won this competition is a great recognition of our efforts and it will be a great motivation in our school life and a positive impact to our future career developments.

Donald:
JUOMA gave us the chance to demonstrate our ideas and abilities. I am glad that the efforts spent were recognized.

About JUOMA

JUOMA has received wide recognition since its establishment in 1995. Participants have the chance to gain knowledge in the field of marketing, and develop their creative thinking, organizational, and communication skills. It is the largest scale marketing case competition offered to higher education institutes in Hong Kong. It aims to enhance creativity and leverage analytical skills of undergraduates, by offering them chances to gain experience in advertising companies.
