College orientation for BBA freshmen

The College of Business warmly welcomed the new undergraduate students to CityU. Prof Houmin Yan, Dean of the College, opened the College Orientation for BBA Freshmen at Chan Tai Ho Multi-Purpose Hall on 27th Aug.

“The business world is like an ocean; the College will provide you with the tools to sail through the waves and storms.” Dean Yan said on his welcoming speech.

Prof Julie Li, Associate Dean (Undergraduate) of the College, introduced the BBA programmes to the new students. “It is a special day for you as it marks the first day of your College life. It is also a special day for me. Ten years ago today, I joined the new faculty orientation at CityU. That was a new start of my life. Welcome to the College of Business!” Prof Li said excitingly.

“We have received over 10,000 applications, and you have made it! Are YOU ready?” Prof Li asked. The students replied with a cheerful “YES!” Prof Li gave three pieces of advice to the students on how to transform themselves in the coming four years:

  1. Study hard – work hard in school projects, and make a balance between study and student activities
  2. Confidence – have confidence in yourself
  3. Communication and Networking – don't be afraid to ask questions and talk to other peers; and enlarge your social network

The theme for this year’s orientation was “Be the best version of you.” With the support from the College of Business Leadership Club 2015 (CBLC), the new students were introduced to the College, programme selection procedures, and other support services through videos, a mini Q&A game and a bingo game.

Alumni Remus Yu Chung-hei and Lilian Wong Chuu-voon, BBA Marketing and BBA Quantitation Finance and Risk Management, respectively, shared their university life and job hunting tips with the new students.

“Understand your work expectations. Don't work for money. Choose a career for passion,” Remus Yu advised.

“Don't compare with others. Always do self-reflection and find out what you want. Most importantly, be yourself,” Lilian Wong advised.

The students and faculty then enjoyed a welcome lunch prepared by the College of Business BBA Team.

The University held a series of events to welcome new students during the Orientation week from 23rd Aug to 29th Aug. Under the auspices of the College Internationalization Team, an orientation ceremony and academic advice sessions for overseas exchange students were also successfully held.
