University of Toronto’s Omnium Global Executive MBA Programme taking classes at CB


The College of Business has long been cooperating with the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto as a teaching partner for the Module 2: East Asia under its Omnium Global Executive MBA programme. The module aims to provide students with unique insights on business models and operations management in China. 27 students from the programme attended a five-day workshop from 23rd-27th November, which included a series of lectures, a company visit and a sharing session by a guest speaker.

Prof Houmin Yan, the Dean of the College of Business and Chair Professor of the Department of Management Sciences, extended his warmest welcome to the students. Prof Yan also delivered an 18-hour course on Operations Management for the programme.  Students were able to have an understanding about operations management within organization, and to equip skills and knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative analysis through the course learning.

Apart from the lectures, the College also arranged a company visit to LF Logistics. Mr Tommy Lui, Executive Director of LF Logistics, received the group and introduced the company’s operating model and business development in Mainland China. Students were toured around to its warehouse to understand the latest technologies adopted in its daily operations.

A sharing session conducted by Mr Jason Guo, the former Chief Operating Officer of Li-Ning Company Limited, was another highlight of the workshop. Mr Guo shared his successful experiences in restructuring the supply chain of the company, and discussed with students the challenges he faced in managing the business. It was an interactive and meaningful dialogue.

Dr Paul Steven Hempel, Associate Professor of the Department of Management of the College of Business, and Prof Glen Whyte, Professor of the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, gave lectures on doing business in China and business negotiations respectively to conclude the East Asia module in Hong Kong.

The programme students will continue their visit in India for the Module 3: South Asia.

The College of Business has been a teaching partner for the Omnium Global Executive MBA programme of the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, since 2005. The programme provides an 18-month international learning experience which immerses working professionals in core business disciplines from a global perspective.
