Strategic advisor explains new trends in entrepreneurship in China

Dr Edward Tse, Founder & CEO of Gao Feng Advisory Company, spoke at the lecture jointly organised by the Institute for Advanced Study and the College of Business on 2nd September.

The lecture was titled “China’s Disruptors – How Chinese Entrepreneurial Companies are Changing China and Rest of the World”.

Dr Edward Tse gave an overview of the changing landscape of China's entrepreneurialism, and some successful entrepreneurs — Jack Ma, Jun Lei, and Huateng Ma, etc. that drive the change forward. In his book “China's Disruptors: How Alibaba, Xiaomi, Tencent, and other companies are changing the rules of business”, Dr Tse interviewed a lot of young people in China, who are eager to start their own business, and embrace the spirit of entrepreneurship. He illustrated the characteristics of these young people as “ambitious, fast and agile, willing to experiment without fear”.

“China is in the new era of springing up start-ups among the young people. They are no longer learning from stories of successful leaders; instead, they always challenge themselves to excel beyond the legends, to innovate and to constantly change the landscape of the industry”, said Dr Tse.

Dr Edward Tse owns his global strategy and management consulting firm Gao Feng with roots in China. Dr Tse specialises in the definition and implementation of business strategy, organisational effectiveness, and corporate transformation across various industries, as well as cross-cultural partnerships and mergers & acquisitions. He has assisted hundreds of companies on all aspects of business related to China and its integration with the world.
