College of Business first Distinguished Alumni Award

Two distinguished alumni were honoured the first CityU College of Business Distinguished Alumni Awards in recognition of their achievements and contributions to their careers, the University and society.

The award presentation was held during the College of Business Congregation 2016 on 22nd October.

The award recipients were Prof Yongheng Yang, Associate Dean and Professor of the School of Public Policy & Management, Tsinghua University, and Mr William Mak Tze-leung, Partner, Assurance Services, PricewaterhouseCoopers Hong Kong.

Prof Yang received his PhD in Management Sciences in 2004. He is now Associate Dean of the School of Public Policy & Management and Professor of Public Administration at Tsinghua University. Prof Yang actively contributes in policy making in national level, and is a renowned expert in public management, particularly in public service area. He is among several key experts who have made important input to develop the recent national cultural strategies. Prof Yang has published more than 30 academic articles in referred journals, and his work was cited more than 2,000 times.

Meanwhile, Mr Mak is a highly respected professional in accountancy. He obtained his bachelor degree in Accountancy in 1991. Mr Mak has long been a devoted alumnus of the Department of Accountancy, and has been serving as the Departmental Advisory Committee member since 2008. He often gives useful advice and suggestions, from the perspective of alumni, successful industry leader, and advisor, which are very valuable and important to steer the department’s positioning, research, and teaching direction in multifaceted ways.  Besides, Mr Mak serves on number of professional bodies, namely the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), for many years. His contributions to the profession, education, and community are tremendous and impactful.

Prof Houmin Yan, Dean of the College, said, “Since its establishment in 1990, the College of Business has accumulated a pool of over 40,000 alumni. We are always proud of the professional or scholastic achievements made by them. This very first Award aims to show our appreciation to these distinguished alumni of the College, and serves as a platform to reconnect with them, building a stronger CB community altogether. It is honoured to present the award to our two outstanding alumni, who have been the role models to young people in society. We hope they will continue to support the College and the University as we move forward.”
