ESADE Business School students explore Asia business environment

Intending to understand more about the business environment in Asia, 50 students from the MSc in International Management programme of the ESADE Business School participated in the 11-day study programme ESADE International Study Tour: Doing Business in Asia, which organized by the College’s Executive Education. The programme was held at CityU from 10th to 20th January, 2017, including lectures, company visits, and cultural activities.

Prof Wayne Yu, Assistant Dean (Executive Education) of the College, showed his great welcome to the students. He highlighted the significance of this collaboration between the two schools, promoting an exchange of ideas and knowledge among students from different cultures and backgrounds.

The programme was well structured with lectures delivered by faculty members from diverse backgrounds. They were:

  • Prof Houmin Yan, Dean
  • Prof Wenyu Dou, Associate Dean (Graduate Programmes)
  • Prof Wayne Yu, Assistant Dean (Executive Education)
  • Prof Julie Li, Head and Professor of the Department of Marketing
  • Prof Nan Zhou, Professor of the Department of Marketing
  • Prof Ziguang Chen, Professor of the Department of Management
  • Dr Reuben Mondejar, Visiting Associate Professor of the Department of Management
  • Dr Yanni Yan, Associate Professor of the Department of Marketing
  • Dr Wilson Chan, Adjunct Professor of the College of Business
  • Mr Albert Oung, Chairman of the Hong Kong Myanmar Chamber of Commerce

In understanding the field experiences of doing business in Asia, the group visited globally leading information firm Thomson Reuters, and was given a presentation about business challenges by Mr Gary Zee, Head of Solution Sales. The group also learned how to support startups and entrepreneurs, through their visit to the Hong Kong Cyberport. Besides, they also went to Lalamove, a local logistics company specialized in on-demand deliveries in Asia. Mr Blake Larson, Lalamove’s International Managing Director and also ESADE’s alumnus, gave an interesting talk about how the company has grown from a startup to a developed company in Asia, with its unique market positioning and business innovation.

The study tour ended with cultural excursions to the Peak, the Big Buddha and Tai-O Fishing Village, and a gala dinner hosted by the College. Dr Yanni Yan, Director of Executive Development (International Programmes), expressed her gratitude to the ESADE Business School. She hoped that the students have gained valuable insights about doing business in Asia through this visit.
