Inbound exchange students celebrate Chinese New Year

About 90 local and international students from the College enjoyed the night celebrating Chinese New Year together on 17th January. The event was organized by the College’s Exchange Student Club, and funded by the Student-initiated Projects (SIP) under the Global Services Office. Programmes and activities supported by SIP aim to encourage integration among students of different nationalities and backgrounds, and promote internationalization in the campus.

International students came to learn and experience traditional customs of Chinese New Year through different kinds of festive decorations and activities. Local students demonstrated Chinese calligraphy and taught others to write couplets – small red banners with hopes and wishes for the New Year. Participants also tried on the traditional Chinese costumes, and enjoyed a poon choi dinner – a communal dish served in a basin, comprising a variety of items such as vegetables, pigskin, fried fish maw, chicken, duck, and etc. This celebratory dish is always served on special occasions, particularly popular in villages in Hong Kong.

We wish all exchange students a prosperous Year of the Rooster!
