Showcasing CityU DBA research with high impact

Ir Dr Barry Lee Chi-hong, Director of ATAL Engineering Limited and a recent graduate of the College’s Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programme, presented in a public seminar his DBA research on Motives and Factors Affecting the Internationalization of Engineering Firms on 16th January at CityU.

The event was jointly organized by the CityU DBA programme and the four leading engineering societies in Hong Kong, including the Hong Kong Branch of Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Mechanical, Marine, Naval Architecture and Chemical Division of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, the Hong Kong Branch of The Institution of Engineering and Technology, and the Hong Kong Waste Management Association.

Supported by Prof Muammer Ozer, Director of the DBA Programme, who donated his CityU Teaching Excellence Award grants to sponsor DBA research development and related activities, the event attracted almost 150 participants from the engineering and business sectors in Hong Kong. It was also the first time ever the four engineering societies co-organized a seminar together.

In his opening remarks, Prof Ozer highlighted the importance of Dr Lee’s research to the engineering sector in Hong Kong.  He believed the presentation could give insights to firms in improving their global competitiveness.

Dr Lee covered on topics such as decision maker’s characteristics, social capital and technological capability of successful engineering firms, and presented factors affecting the engineering firms expanding their business and entering the global market.

Laying out its vision, the DBA programme believes that the research seminar serves as an excellent platform to showcase the learning partners’ high quality research results, and to provide knowledge transfer to solving problems in society.
