2018 College Orientation for freshmen


Around 600 freshmen gathered at the College Orientation Day 2018 on 30 August. The event, hosted by the College’s Undergraduate Programme team and the College of Business Leadership Club (CBLC), aimed to help new students understand more about the College and introduce them to resources which facilitate their study at CityU.

Professor Houmin Yan, Dean of the College, opened the event with welcoming remarks. He congratulated the students for turning to a new page in life at CityU, and encouraged them to make good use of the University’s resources and work hard to make the four-year university life meaningful.

Dr Raymond Wong, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programmes) of the College, introduced the College’s undergraduate programmes, and highlighted the new double majors arrangement, as well as the internship and exchange opportunities provided by the College. In his speech, Dr Wong emphasized the College is committed in training the students to be innovative, insightful, ethical, thought-provoking and have a global vision. He also encouraged students to embrace challenges and go the extra mile.

The theme of this year’s orientation day was Go the Extra Mile, members of CBLC shared their own experience on how to get used to the university life. The new students were also familiarized with the College’s resources through different games and interactive activities.

Facilitated by senior students Torres Wong, BBA Business Analysis and Kelly Leung, BBA Business Operations Management, alumni Mr Edwin Choi (BBA Accountancy and Management Information Systems 2004) and Mr Leon Lee (BBA Accountancy 2017), shared their school life at CB and how the experience helped pave the way for their success in career. They encouraged freshmen to enjoy their study and grab every opportunity they have at the College. Mr Choi is currently the Deputy CEO and CFO of Beacon College while Mr Lee is one of the founders of ElderTreks, a start-up mobile platform which offers Hong Kong local tours guided by the elderly.

Also attending the event were Dr Mary Pang, Associate Dean (Internationalization), Professor Weiquan Wang, Associate Dean (Research and Faculty), Dr Andrew Chan, Director of First Year Teaching and Learning, Heads from the six Departments Professor Jeong-bon Kim, Professor Ma Yue, Professor Choon-ling Sia, Professor Muammer Ozer, Professor Frank Chen and Professor Julie Li, and other faculty members and staff of CB.
