CB hosts symposium on blockchain application in Greater Bay Area


The College of Business hosted a one-day symposium on blockchain application in the Greater Bay Area at CityU on 6 June. Close to 30 participants comprising Chinese government officials, industry experts and faculty members sat together to discuss the development, application and possible collaboration on blockchain technology in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.

Professor Way Kuo, President of City University of Hong Kong, kick started the event with a warm welcome remark, he said, “Blockchain is important more than ever. Leveraging on our high-quality research and resources, CityU hopes to strengthen blockchain collaboration with different parties to make valuable contribution to Hong Kong, China and the world.”

The event had invited Mr Du Ping, Secretary-General of the Expert Commission of the 13th Five-Year Plan for the National Economic and Social Development, to talk about the development and strategies of digitalisation in China; Mr Huan Maosheng, Secretary-General of the Big Data Application and Management Center of The State Information Center (SIC), to introduce the role of SIC; and Dr. Lee George Lam, Chairman of Cyberport, to speak on how Hong Kong strives to develop into a regional hub of digital technologies and digital asset management. Industry experts also shared success stories and insights on blockchain development in the Greater Bay Area.

In the meeting, some faculty members of the College also presented their research projects and insights on blockchain or new technologies related topics.
