Professor Liang Chi-Yuan, Chair Professor of National Central University and Adjunct Research Fellow, Institute of Economics, Academia Sinica in Taiwan, delivered a talk on Taiwan’s Post-Referendum Energy Policy at City Seminar on 21 June 2019. Professor Liang is a well-known and respected energy economist with research focuses on energy economics, environmental economics, economic modeling and forecast, industrial economics and productivity analysis.

Professor Ma Yue, Head of the Department of Economics and Finance, kick-started the seminar with a warm welcome remark. He said it was the College’s great honor to have Professor Liang being the guest speaker of City Seminar. It was an excellent opportunity for the audience to understand Taiwan's energy policy and international energy challenges and development.

In the seminar, Professor Liang discussed about Taiwan's energy transformation policy after the 2018 referendum when three energy related items passed. Through data and examples, Professor Liang revealed potential problems that may arise in the energy field in 2025, such as regional power supply imbalance and energy security. In addition, Professor Liang looked into the opportunities and constraints of Taiwan's future low-carbon energy development, as well as some insights on energy development worldwide. At the end of the seminar, Professor Liang shared his proposal on the energy mix with the audience. In the Q&A session, Professor Liang actively communicated with the audience and answered their questions about energy policy, which made the City Seminar ended successfully.
