Paving your way for success: Mr George Hongchoy meets with MBA students

The College of Business was honoured to have Mr George Hongchoy as a guest speaker for the MBA course FB6706 - Executive Discovery & Network, held at Academic 3 on 26th February.

During the seminar titled Paving your way for success, Mr Hongchoy, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of The Link Management Limited (The Link), shared his successful story in career development. He discussed the challenges and difficulties faced by The Link and the strategies he applied in crisis management, turning challenges into business opportunities. A well-known example was the transformation of the traditional wet markets into modern well-managed fresh markets. The Link is the asset management manager of The Link Real Estate Investment Trust (The Link REIT; HKEx stock code: 823) which was established in 2005. The Link REIT is the first real estate investment trust listed in Kong Hong, and currently Asia’s largest REIT and one of the world’s largest retail focused REITs in terms of market capitalisation.

Mr Hongchoy gave the below tips to MBA students in paving for a successful business:

  1. Understand the business and positioning of the company – set up a clear vision and sustainability framework
  2. Comprehensive project management – standardization in service quality
  3. Professional development – investment in staff training and development
  4. Corporate strategy adapting to changes – identify potentiality with changes in the market
  5. Solid foundation – build up a unique system with predefined policies and procedures

The forum ended with a Q&A session, and a souvenir was presented to Mr Hongchoy as a mark of thanks for his sharing.

About the speaker

Apart from the duties served in The Link Management Limited, Mr Hongchoy is also a director of Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, a member of the Asia Executive Board of The Wharton School and a council member of The Hong Kong Institute of Directors. In 2013, Mr Hongchoy was presented with Asian Corporate Director Award by Corporate Governance Asia. In 2011, he was presented with Director of the Year Award by The Hong Kong Institute of Directors and Outstanding Entrepreneurship Award by Enterprise Asia.
