MKT co-organises the China Marketing International Conference 2015


The China Marketing International Conference 2015 (CMIC) was successfully held in Xi’an, China, from 24th to 27th July. The conference was co-organised by the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), and University of South Carolina (USC).

In recent decades, the rapid socio-economic development in China has offered an abundance of opportunities for further research in the field of marketing theory and practice. The Conference provided an effective platform promoting interactive exchanges among academic, business, government, and non-profit organisations.

Under the auspices of the Department of Marketing of CityU (MKT), over 370 scholars and 500 delegates from 12 countries/ regions attended the conference. More than 200 papers were accepted and presented under the theme of Big Data, Cultural Difference, and Marketing.

Prof Guijun Zhuang, Head of the Department of Marketing of XJTU opened the conference. Prof Wei Huang, Dean of School of Management of XJTU, Prof Chenting Su, former Head of MKT of CityU, and Prof Zhilin Yang, Associate Head of MKT of CityU, delivered welcoming speeches to the guests.
Renowned scholars from leading universities shared their latest research summaries on marketing issues as keynote speakers:

  • Prof David Stewart, Loyola Marymount University
  • Prof Mike W. Peng, University of Texas at Dallas
  • Prof Thomas Kramer, University of South Carolina
  • Prof Eric Fang, University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign
  • Prof Kevin Zhou, The University of Hong Kong

In the Paper Presentation Session, delegates presented papers addressing various topics in Big Data Marketing, Marketing Strategy, Big Data and Social Networks, Consumer Behavior, and Service Marketing.

Prof Haibin Yang, Acting Head of MKT of CityU, hosted the Doctoral Consortium of the Conference. It provided opportunities for senior doctoral students and junior faculty members in the marketing field to connect and interact with fellow students and researchers.

Prof David Steward, Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, Prof Yunchuan Liu, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Prof Ying Xie, University of Texas at Dallas, Prof Jane Gu, University of Connecticut, and Prof Thomas Kramer, University of South Carolina, shared their experience in teaching and research with the audience at the Doctoral Consortium.

About the China Marketing International Conference

The City University of Hong Kong initiated the China Marketing International Conference in 2013. Over 1,000 scholars from 20 countries/regions participated and nearly 400 papers were accepted since inception. The CMIC is gradually developing into a large-scale worldwide academic event. The CMIC 2016 will be held at the China University of Petroleum in Qingdao, China.
