Introduction

One of the major functions, and indeed strength, of the Department is its research capability. Staff and students are encouraged to participate in research projects; this work helps the students' studies and staff development as well as increasing the field of knowledge available in the discipline of management sciences. Development of new techniques and research experience gained by staff members are disseminated to students through teaching.

The Department has received funding for 198 research projects, with total grants of over HK$61.2 millions. Many of the projects are large scale; just over onehalf of them contributed HK$11 million to the overall research funds received.
