One-Belt-One-Road: Opportunities for Hong Kong and for the development of Southeast Asia

Prof ZHAO Lei, Professor at the Institute for International Strategic Studies of the Party School of the Central Committee of the Central Party School and Director of the Research Office for International Relations and National Unity, gave an inspiring lecture about the opportunities for Hong Kong and for the development of Southeast Asia under One Belt One Road initiative at City University of Hong Kong on 28th November, 2016. This seminar is organized by Southeast Asia Research Centre, co-organized by Research Centre on One-Belt-One-Road, Sustainable Hong Kong Research Hub and Global China Studies.

As Mainland China continues to promote the One Belt One Road development strategy, Hong Kong has been regarded as the major service platform for tapping such opportunities. According to Prof. Zhao’s investigation, mainland enterprises intended to sell more to One Belt One Road, especially the Southeast Asian market such as Indonesia, Philippine and Vietnam; while some expressed an interest in going to One Belt One Road countries to set up infrastructure and production facilities or to source various products and materials.
