Stragetic Partnership with Hong Kong Trade Development

On the morning of Thursday, 3 August 2017, the senior management and research staff members of Research Center on One-Belt-One-Road (OBOR), City University of Hong Kong (CityU) had a meeting with Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) research team at CityU. The HKTDC is governed by a 19-member Council of Hong Kong business leaders and senior government officials, which has been playing a very important role in helping Hong Kong tap into OBOR initiative, promoting Hong Kong as a super connector and assisting companies to explore business opportunities in Mainland China, Asia as well as overseas countries.

As PPP model has been extensively using in infrastructure projects and large-scale infrastructure projects being regularly launched under OBOR initiative, how the PPP project model can be utilized to support those projects and how it can be best structured became a key issue. During the meeting, Prof. Houmin Yan, the Dean of College of Business and Acting Director of OBOR, shared his opinions on PPP model utilization and the expertise of the research center. Besides that, he pointed out Hong Kong's great and successful experiences on projects operation and management, in addition to the well-recognized legal system and financial framework. All of these shall be well presented and promoted to investors and government officials around the world. Prof. Yan believes that OBOR and HKTDC can jointly make great contribution on it.

OBOR and HKTDC has exchanged ideas on developing practical guidelines and methodologies together for the best implemented PPP model that particular utilized in the investments and projects for the sixty some countries along the belt and the road. HKTDC also invited OBOR to be their strategic partner and to participate in the annual Belt and Road Summit on September 11, 2017.
