Notes for Contributors

Please note that more detailed instructions are available from the Editors or the Production Editor at Blackwell Publishers

  1. PER encourages submission of competent theoretical and empirical papers in all areas of economics, especially rigorous analytical work on economic issues related to the Pacific Rim. Contributions to the journal will be double-blind refereed to ensure impartiality and high quality. The PER is the official publication of the Hong Kong Economic Association.

Send four copies of the manuscript containing the telephone and fax numbers and email addresses of the authors to the appropriate editor. Authors residing in North America should send their manuscripts to the Editor at the US office. Manuscripts from other parts of the world should be sent to the Editor at the Hong Kong office. Manuscripts should be original contributions and must not be submitted anywhere else while being considered for publication in PER. There is a non-refundable submission fee of US$60.00 payable to the "Hong Kong Economic Association" or "Pacific Economic Review", which is reduced to US$30 for Association members. Membership information can be obtained from Lok Sang Ho, Department of Economics, Lingnan University, Tuen Mun, Hong Kong.

Author affiliation including university or institution and country
Author's fax number and e-mail address
Abstract of less than 100 words (containing no references to specific texts).

Diagrams, graphs, charts, etc. must be referred to in the text as "figures", and numbered sequentially with Arabic numerals. Please indicate the approximate position of the figure in the text.
  4. Tables must be referred to in the text as tables and numbered sequentially with Arabic numerals. Please indicate the approximate position of the table in the text.
  5. Subheadings
Please use Arabic numbers for first and second-level subheadings and use alphabetical order for third-level subheadings.
  6. References
Please adhere exactly to the following style and remember to do a final cross-check to see that the list is complete and matches the citations in the text exactly. Reference lists MUST be double spaced.

Citation in text: Include the author's (and co-author's) last name, year of publication, and page numbers if applicable. "et al." may be used with three or more authors.

Reference list: List in the following order: alphabetically by author, within author by year and within year by title.

Books: Author(s) (year) Title, City of publication: Publisher.

Articles: Author(s) (year) "Title," Journal Volume, pages.

Unpublished: Author(s) (year) "Title," type of paper, University or Foundation.

For cases not covered above, include all information (i.e. series title, volume number, translator, reprint information).
  7. Footnotes
Please supply these in a separate list numbered consecutively from 1. Ensure that the list matches the footnote indicators in the text. Footnote number 1 should contain the acknowledgement, and the indicator will be placed after the author(s) name(s).
  8. Mathematics Distinguish between "1" and "l", and "O", "o" and "0", especially as super- and subscripts.
Place formula numbers in parentheses on the far right and order consecutively throughout the paper (1), (2), (3).
Use Arabic numerals for equations, theorems, definitions and sections.
Ensure that italics and bold face are used correctly and are easily differentiated from standard text. This applies throughout the article, not just in the mathematics.
Please avoid the use of mathematics in footnotes wherever possible.
  9. Appendices
Place the appendix at the end of the paper before the references. Additional appendices should be treated as subsections of the single appendix.
  10. Sections
Number consecutively in Arabic numerals with the introductory section as "1. Introduction"
  11. Consistency
Use either British or US spelling throughout - do not mix the two.
  12. Abbreviations
Avoid the use of abbreviations. Exceptions include terms used in equations like "lim" and "max," "US" for United States.
  13. Publishing procedures
Your paper will be copyedited and typeset and a proof will be sent to the corresponding author to be checked. The corresponding author is responsible for proofreading the article, and must follow the instructions sent by the publisher with the proof. Rewriting of even small parts of the article at proof stage may be disallowed by the editor for cost reasons, so it is important that you make any changes now. The corresponding author will receive 1 free copy of the relevant journal issue for each author, and a total of 20 offprints, to be shared with co-authors if appropriate.
