The College of Business (CB) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) officially launched its inaugural Industry Mentorship Programme 2026/27 on 13 October 2026, bringing together 83 students, young alumni, and experienced alumni mentors for a year-long journey of learning, professional development, and meaningful connection.
The kick-off ceremony featured a mentee briefing session, an interactive empowerment workshop, a networking dinner, and a mentor appointment ceremony, marking the start of a new initiative designed to support both undergraduate students and young alumni as they navigate their academic and professional journeys.
Building a lifelong cycle of support
The Industry Mentorship Programme is built on two key pillars: Undergraduate Mentorship and Young Alumni Mentorship.
Under the Undergraduate Mentorship stream, 34 first-year undergraduate students have been paired with 16 young alumni mentors who will share practical advice and personal experiences to help students adapt to university life and explore future career opportunities.
The Young Alumni Mentorship stream connects 22 early-career alumni with 11 experienced alumni mentors, providing guidance, industry insights, and access to professional networks to support their transition into the workplace and continued professional growth.
Beyond individual mentoring relationships, the programme aims to strengthen alumni engagement, foster lifelong learning, expand professional networks, and build a connected and supportive CB community.
Nearly 100 students, young alumni, and seasoned alumni mentors come together to connect, learn, and grow through meaningful networking and mentoring opportunities.
Professor Stephen Shum extends his heartfelt appreciation to the College Alumni Advisory Board and its Student Development Subcommittee, alumni mentors, and students for their unwavering support and participation.
Alumni stepping forward to give back
A highlight of the programme is the enthusiastic support from CB alumni, many of whom have volunteered their time and expertise to mentor the next generation.
Professor Stephen Shum, Dean of the College of Business, thanked the College Alumni Advisory Board, the Student Development Subcommittee, and participating alumni for helping bring the programme to life in his opening remarks.
“This programme creates a continuous cycle of support, where today’s mentees can become tomorrow’s mentors, giving back to future generations and keeping our alumni community vibrant and engaged,” said Professor Shum.
He added that the initiative not only supports students and graduates at critical stages of their development but also strengthens connections across generations of alumni and enhances the long-term value of a CityUHK business education.
More than 90 participants attended the Mentorship Programme kick-start ceremony dinner, where Dean Professor Shum and Professor Alvin Leung, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programmes), presented certificates to mentors in recognition of their commitment and contributions.
Inspiring personal and professional growth
For senior mentor Menglin Mo (EMBA Chinese, 2019), Chairman of Yobetter Biotech, joining the programme is an opportunity to give back and help others benefit from the guidance she once received. “When I was a student, I was helped a great deal, and I received a lot of guidance from my predecessors. I hope I can share my experience with my students, guide them, and lead them through questions about life, study, and other areas. I see this as a way of giving back to the school and to society,” she said.
Young alumni mentee Thomas Chung (BBA Global Business, 2017), Wealth Management Analyst at UBS, said he looks forward to expanding his professional network and learning from experienced alumni mentors. “CityUHK has a very large network, and there are many industry leaders among our alumni. By joining the programme, I can meet more alumni and leaders from different industries. The workshop helped us understand ourselves and prepare for the mentorship journey ahead, so that I can get the most out of this programme over the coming year,” he shared.
Looking ahead
As participants begin their year-long mentorship journey, the programme is expected to foster lasting relationships, encourage cross-generational knowledge sharing, and strengthen the College's alumni network.
Through the collective efforts of mentors, mentees, alumni leaders, and the College community, the Industry Mentorship Programme reflects CB's commitment to nurturing future-ready business leaders and empowering the next generation to Lead What's Next.
Mentors and mentees break the ice through engaging activities, laying the foundation for valuable professional connections and lasting relationships.
