ADMISSION & APPLICATION

Our programmes strive to train professionals who can make valuable contributions to the financial sector. We expect our students to be motivated and have the strong desire to learn and to excel in their careers.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from a recognized university preferably with more than 1 year of work experience in the industry.

For applicants who obtained their bachelor's degree from institutions where the medium of instruction is not English, there is a minimum English proficiency requirement:

  • a score of 59 (revised paper-delivered test) or 79 (internet-based test) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) @#; or
  • an overall band score of 6.5 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS)@; or
  • a score of 490 in the new College English Test (CET-6) of Chinese mainland or a pass in the old CET-6 test; or
  • other equivalent qualifications.

@ TOEFL and IELTS scores are considered valid for two years. Applicants are required to provide their English test results obtained within the two years preceding the commencement of the University's application period.

# Applicants are required to arrange for the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to send their TOEFL results directly to the University. The TOEFL institution code for CityU is 3401.

Applicants who have outstanding academic records in a non-finance major are also welcome.

Applicants who have outstanding academic records without relevant work experience will also be considered.  It will be advantageous for this group of applicants to submit their GMAT or GRE scores.

For the MSc Financial Engineering programme, we expect students to have strong quantitative skills due to the quantitative nature of the programme.
 

Fellowships Scheme

Fellowship awards are available for local students admitted to the MSF programme under the Fellowships Scheme supported by the HKSAR Government. This programme in the priority area of “Busniess” is one of the targeted programmes listed under the Fellowships Scheme with 4 fellowship awards. Local students admitted to the MSF programme in full-time, part-time or combined study mode will be invited to submit applications for the fellowships. 
 

Important notes for admission application

Applicants are required to upload the below supporting documents when submitting their applications online.  This can shorten the processing time of each application. 

- degree award certificate* [graduation certificate (毕业证书)* and degree certificate (学位证书)* in Chinese version for
   academic qualifications obtained in mainland China]
- online verification report of the degree award [issued by CDGDC (中国学位网) for academic qualifications obtained in
   mainland China]
- official academic transcript at graduation / the latest version
- official explanations of the GPA grading system, showing the maximum GPA obtainable (e.g. A=4.0) if a 100-mark system
    is not adopted (normally the information on grading system is found/presented on the back page of the academic
    transcripts)
- transcripts and certificates that are not in English should be accompanied by an official certified translation
- official English test results+, such as CET-6, IELTS, TOEFL test results
- any other supporting documents (such as GMAT/GRE score report^)


* If you are a final year student, you are required to upload the award certificate/degree certificate (学位证书) and graduation certificate (毕业证书) by mid-August.

^ We do not require GMAT/GRE scores. Nevertheless, the more information/documents you provide us, the more accurate we can evaluate whether our programmes suit you. Hence, we will consider your GMAT/GRE scores if you choose to submit them (this is especially true for applicants without sufficient relevant work experience).
