BBA China Business student receives the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship

The College is delighted to announce Carol Huang Mei-Yu, a Year 2 student majoring in BBA China Business of the Department of Marketing, received her second year’s Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship for the academic year 2013/2014 at the Happy Valley Racecourse of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) on 28 May.

The award was presented at the HKJC Scholarship 2013/2014 Presentation Ceremony cum 14th Graduation Celebration Dinner.  Thanks to Carol’s continuous excellent academic achievements and contributions, she successfully renewed the scholarship and was offered a total of HK$96,500 to cover her tuition fee, academic and living expenses for the year.  Renewal of the scholarship would be made on an annual basis with reference to the recipient’s continued outstanding performances ((i.e. SGPA and CGPA at 3.5 or above) and contribution in both academic and extra-curricular activities and/or community services, as well as the recommendation of the University. The total scholarship awarded during the four years of study can reach HK$386,000.

Major selection criteria for the scholarship:

  • High standard of academic performance in public examinations ( e.g. HKCEE and HKALE for local students; National College Entrance Examination for Mainland students)
  • High standard of academic performance in first year’s studies of 3-year/4-year curriculum (i.e. achieved a CGPA 3.5 or above)
  • Good intellectual and personal qualities
  • Proficiency in the Chinese (including Putonghua) and English languages
  • High sense of belonging to the scholarship scheme
  • Leadership qualities as demonstrated in their involvement in extra-curricular activities
  • Genuine support for and active participation in community services
  • Talents, if any

About the Scholarship

The scholarship is managed and supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust with the aim to encourage outstanding students to pursue their studies in Hong Kong. It offers a maximum of four scholarships annually, three for local students and one for non-local Mainland student to undertake their first degree programmes in each of the eight UGC-funded universities and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Successful applicants should have excellent academic achievements and strong leadership abilities as demonstrated in their extra-curricular activities and/or community services. They should also have a strong sense of commitment to Hong Kong and the Mainland. Awardees will be named as Jockey Club Scholars to join the non-profit making organization - Jockey Club Scholars Alumni Association, and participate in its activities and community services.
