The Staff Mentoring Scheme is a university-wide orientation initiative providing an added way for individual Year 2 students to advance their studies. Each academic year, Departmental faculty members serve as Staff Mentors for groups of four to five Year 2 students. Staff mentors help to advise these mentoring groups on subjects relevant to their studies, career development and other important issues affecting their personal development.
To highlight the importance of individual's initiative to learn from faculty members, a competition called the "Valued Staff Mentoring Experience Abstracts Competition" has been launched. Student mentoring groups participate in the competition by submitting abstracts of the mentoring experiences they deem valuable to their university development. Quality participants win prizes and recognition awards.
