Business Decision Analytics - Discover Smart Insight from Big Data!

Programme Brief

The BBA Business Decision Analytics major (formerly BBA Business Analysis) is one of two majors offered by the Department of Decision Analytics and Operations.

The major aims of BBA Business Decision Analytics (BDAN) are to develop students’ qualitative and quantitative ability to solve business problems and make decisions through DEEP data analysis. BDAN consists of two study streams:

• Decision Analytics Stream
• Data Informatics Stream (Joint Collaboration with Department of Information Systems)

The BDAN programme at CityU achieved accreditation from the Royal Statistical Society (RSS), U.K., in December 2023. This accreditation recognises that the BDAN programme meets the established standards in the fields of statistics and data analytics. Upon completion of their studies at CityU, our students are granted the status of Graduate Statistician (RSS), and it also paves the way for them to pursue the professional qualification of Chartered Statistician (RSS) after accumulating five years of work experience.

Decision Analytics Stream

Aims

• Provide professional training in business analytics, statistics, business intelligence (big data analysis), risk management, business knowledge and communication skills
• Develop students' ability to manage and analyze huge volumes of business data using modern computer software widely used in the global business world
• Enable students to solve business problems by a judicious application of technical and practical skills
• Enable students to obtain internationally recognized professional qualifications such as SAS certification and Financial Risk Manager (FRM) Examinations
• Prepare students for statistical and analyst positions in the financial, commercial, and government sectors

• Decision Analytics Stream students are eligible to take one of the following paired majors as their second major (minimal additional credits required):
  • Business Economics (BE)
  • Finance (FIN)
  • Global Operations Management (GOM)
  • Information Management (Business Intelligence) (BI)
  • Management (Human Resource Management) (HRM)
  • Marketing (MKT)

Professional Qualifications

Students can obtain internationally recognized professional qualifications, including:

• SAS Base Programmer Certification
• SAS Advanced Programmer Certification
• SAS Predictive Modeler Certification

SAS is a powerful data analytics and business intelligence software widely used in industries such as banking and finance. Comprehensive training with real-life examples and case studies is provided.

Data Informatics Stream

Aims

• Provide professional training in data analytics, information management, business knowledge and communication skills
• Enable students to obtain international professional qualifications (Base SAS)
• Prepare students to work in areas which require both data analytics and information management knowledge

Professional Qualification

Students are able to obtain internationally recognized professional qualifications including SAS Base Programmer Certification.

Knowledge in Various Industries

Students can acquire knowledge in two different industries: Management Sciences and Information Systems. As this stream is jointly offered with the Department of Information Systems, experts from both departments collaborate to deliver the programme.
