(MAQAB 2018 Cohort, CICC)

After earning the bachelor degrees in 2014, I worked as a trader in one of securities companies in Beijing. During the two-year working period, I took a chance to transfer to RS department in the company. And at that moment I found myself lack of quantitative knowledge which my job required. So I made a decision to go back to school again and earned the MAQAB program in year 2017. During the whole school year, I went to Hong Kong and back to Shenzhen every weekday night. The payoffs are provided to be worth. the MAQAB program gave me a stepping stone of quantitative field, and helped me to go further in related area. More importantly, I learnt that it was never to late to start.

I chose MAQAB as the major of postgraduate study. I was impressed and encouraged a lot from this major after one year study, ranging from the attitude of our professors to the contents of courses I learned.

The professors of MAQAB delivered quality teaching and responds to our questions with great patience and they are always readily available to provide support. In particular, I had the opportunity to use SAS in our courses and projects. This learning experience benefits us a lot in our job placement after graduation.

Besides, the learning experience in Hong Kong is memorable for me, both in academic study and extra-curriculum activities. Serving as a class representative give me an opportunity to make a lot of friends from other programmes. The professional knowledge I learned also helps me improve my logical thinking ability and problem-solving ability, which lay the foundation for my job-placement.

The subjects that I took throughout the programme really gave me new insights as a statistical profession. Sam Hu

I want to thank the professors in the MAQAB programme teaching me the knowledge, skills and more importantly, the mode of thinking which are very useful in my life. When I was young and looked at the sky at night, I fell into a reverie why there is such an arrangement between the stars? My father said to me, "This is due to the gravitational attraction between stars." Later, I was taught during physics lesson in secondary education that gravitation attraction can be described in a mathematical equation. Since then, I realize that causality can be identified and described using appropriate quantitative tools.

For today’s managers, quantitative analysis is a very important management tool in their daily operations. In commercial and industrial applications, causal relationship is almost everywhere in a free market, for example, i. how cultural background impact sales; ii. how policy changes affect stock prices; iii. whether personnel issues would result in enterprise risk, etc. For these problems, we cannot simply base on intuition or past experience but have to identify the causal relationship in order to plan ahead. In particular, we have to collect data to trace any hidden pattern, apply quantitative analysis tools to identify any causal relationship and then adjust the factors to achieve the desired results. Our company’s business problems mainly concentrate on the comforts of living and working environment category. We all know that the comforts of living refers to increased automation, proper temperature and humidity, enough natural or artificial light, wide view, quiet, fresh air and free space, with relatively reduced energy and material consumption. We have to collect a lot of data to identify the relationship between a comfortable life and resources in order to provide adequate and comfortable living and the work solution to customers. In this connection, the trainings in the MAQAB programme provide strong support to my works.

I commend the emphasis of application in the curriculum the MAQAB programme, which is to provide students with many opportunities to work on practical cases in stock trend forecast, credit risk assessment, cancer and smoking relations, product surveys and analysis. The programme is supported by a team of professors who have many years of teaching and consulting experience. They have worked on data analysis projects with large organizations, so they can provide both practical and theoretical knowledge and skills to students. In today's society, those who can understand and draw insights from their business data will an edge over their competitors. Thus, there are many global organizations put great force in developing data analysis department for persevered opportunities. My study experience in the MAQAB programme testifies that it should be a great help in your career after studying in this programme.
