I am proud of being one of the first year participants in this business practice internship program. Upon the six weeks of internship as an accounts clerk in one of the biggest furniture retailers - IKEA, I experienced in depth how the Accounts Department operates in a corporation. At the same time, I can fulfill even more than I expected from the program. I am glad and much appreciated the family-like working atmosphere by the company and the excellent chance provided to work as an ordinary staff.

To conclude the whole experience, I have equipped myself in preparing my future career and handling matters in and out of school. Externally, I developed my own style on how to use the shortest time to cope with a new environment by observing a company through office layouts. Further I got a better and critical insight of nowadays business situation. Finally I got a better understanding about the win-win relations concept taught in the training course which is useful in our daily lives and attitude. Internally, not only the internship has sharpened my interpersonal skills by developing my own method in starting a conversation, it taught me how to seek for a balance during a dilemma. I also explored a new concept and direction of work that being an employee, one should do all things to the best interest of the company as a whole.

It is an unforgettable experience in participating in this internship programme. I had learned a lot form it. I had a great enhancement in my computer knowledge and learned a lot of technical skills through this internship. The most important is that I have a better understanding of the IT industry. I realize that the persons who work in IT industry must be flexible. IT industry is a very fast evolving industry. People would find it difficult to adapt to the change if they are not flexible enough. They would also be eliminated easily if they cannot keep up with the now technology. This information is very useful for me to decide my career. Besides, I have acquired ability in handling some workplace issue such as work overtime.

Joining the internship is really a challenging, interesting, and valuable experience I never had at school.

My major learning from this internship was the knowledge and skills gained (the understanding of the legal framework of HRM and operation of the business firms, the analysis techniques, know more about the retailing industry in Hong Kong etc.), problem-solving skills, communication and listening skills and interpersonal skills. Personally, I gained much more than I expect beforehand. This course gives me an opportunity to show my ability to persevere despite obstacles and prove my competencies.

My job duty is to make a research on retail financing industry and research on companies required by the supervisor. I've to investigate the credit card business in different countries and locations in the world, such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and U.S. After I have read and locate the materials, I have to make a written report and presentation at the end of the internship. After searching and reading the reference, case study and information for two months intensively, I have know more about the market mechanism of the retail financial market. As I have decided to start my career from banking industry, the knowledge I have gained let me know more on how the retail financing and the banks in Hong Kong works. Moreover, as I was required to prepare written reports, the preparation process would help me to develop my reading habit. I think it benefits me a lot because I believe there is a positive relationship between reading habit and learning ability. By required to access the information which I didn't familiar with, it teach me how to pick up new thinks and learn how to facing new challenges. The internship has widened my vision. For some of the countries that I have studied, I didn't know much about it. The process of searching and reading allows me to gain a better understanding about the business environment in these countries. Moreover, by observing how my supervisor handling the projects, I could imagine working could be a very demanding task, which makes more treasure time of being a student. After the internship, I think I will definitely treat my study more serly in order to make a better preparation for my career in the coming years.

I have understood more about myself, it is important to me since I will be graduated next year; the internship let me to have an actual experience in handling some of the workplace issues and established the work attitude for myself. I am sure that it could benefit me to make a better preparation on how to start my career and treat my study in a more ser way.

After participating this internship, I become much more independent and confident in making decisions and work on my own. I also noticed that it is important to broaden my knowledge base and update it from time to time in order to enhance my own competitive power.

I highly appreciate this internship program because it is extremely practical and rewarding. Through working in Wellcome for 2 months, I have become more familiar with the supermarket industry. Also, my great exposure in Wellcome has let me earn a lot of real-life working experiences, which can hardly be covered by the current curriculum I am now taking.

In addition, this 2-month internship program has helped me set my academic plan in the remaining university life.

After the internship, I found that the theory and the knowledge that we learnt in the past are very useful in the daily operations, especially case studies. Because we can use a similar case to analysis the operations. Also, I have learned something new in the internship, for example, the new version of ISO 9002:2000, the application of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and the importance of Standard Inflection Control. All of them are useful form my further understanding about quality service.

Apart from these, I also got the chance to have an in-depth observation about the organization culture and the management styles of ServiceMaster. For ServiceMaster, it aims at providing excellent service to its customers.

Chan Hung Kun,
BBA Quantitative Analysis for Business,
interned in Jardine OneSolution (HK) Ltd.

It is a good experience for joining this internship because I have learnt a lot and become mature from the internship. I know about the difference between large and small company, which helps me to consider what company side I should apply for in order to have better prospectus. Also, I realized that I have to handle cases myself and should be able for finding out the solutions once I go to work. I have to be independent as I cannot rely on the others just like I am in university. Moreover, I can feel the pressure that everyone is upgrading himself ore herself. I know I have left far behind already. I should catch up as soon as possible before it is too late. Lastly, I am benefited from knowing about my weaknesses. Before I graduated, I will try hard to improve all my weakness and to be a whole developed person.

I am pleasant that I have joined this programmed. As I expected, I have a lot of times for me to apply what I have learnt. I once doubt about the usefulness of my major. What I have learnt is fundamental, for example, the queuing system. I only know about how to calculate for single queue and infinite system. However, there are limited chances to see the single queue system. Using a theory and equation cannot help for the changing world. And now, I know that my major can be very practical. My interest in studying my major aroused and I would like to work related my studies. I will try hard to revise and practice what I have learnt and get prepared for the future use.
