MS6324 Internship Project 

Internships are an excellent opportunity to learn how theoretical knowledge from lectures and tutorials can be applied in the real-world.  Practical experience can be invaluable when you graduate and enter the competitive job market.  By participating in an internship, you gain work experience, develop interpersonal and soft skills, and transform theory into practical skills.  You can also jumpstart your professional network and gain insights into your future career path.

    E nrolling in MS6324 (3 credits):    

1. You may be allowed to enrol in this course during your semester of study. However, your graduation may be postponed if the final grade for MS6324 is not released as usual. 
2. A book report is required. You cannot register for MS6324 if you do not provide the book report by the first two weeks of the teaching period.
3. Proactively seek and apply for internships before the semester starts (see schedule below).  The internship should last at least 6 weeks full-time in the summer, OR at least 240 hours part-time during Semester A or B.  You are responsible for arranging your own internship, and the department will not find a placement for you.  The department will only send out information on internship opportunities via email.
4. Submit the application form (MS6324) to the General Office by the end of the FIRST week of your internship.  The application form can be submitted in person or by email to daogo@cityu.edu.hk.  (subject: Application for Internship Project MS6324)
5. After your placement has been approved, you will be registered in MS6324 by the department.  Refer to the syllabus and the timeline below for submission of coursework.

Evaluation in MS6324

By the first two weeks of the teaching period (5%)

Students must submit the Book report by the first two weeks of the teaching period.

Within the first two weeks after your internship commences

Submit 1st reflection report by email: daogo@cityu.edu.hk    (Subject: Internship Project MS6324_1st reflection report)
This report should describe the expected outcomes of your internship, indicating clearly what you will learn from your position. You should refer to the Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOS) in any of the courses from your major when you describe the expected outcomes.
Length of report:  1 page

Towards the end of Semester

Submit 2nd reflection report on Canvas
The report should describe the tasks and responsibilities assigned to you, with a focus on what you have learned and accomplished. The reflection MUST match some of the CILOS in your major's courses.
Length of report:  At least 4,000 words, excluding the references.
Weight of two reports combined (50%)*

The department will contact your supervisor to collect the Employer Evaluation Form at the end of your internship period.
Employer evaluation (30%)*

At the end of Semester

Submit PowerPoint for the Sharing Session. Details will be available in September.

At the end of Semester

Conduct sharing session (15%)*

* Pass/Fail Grading is used. Students must earn at least 50% of the marks in each of the continuous assessments to pass the course.
* Late penalty for assignments:  - 2% x (number of late days) from the late assignment score(s).
