Programme Structure
  • MSc programmes require students to complete 30 credit units. In general, each course carries 3 credit units.
  • Each programme consists of 8 required core courses (24 credit units) and 2 elective courses (6 credit units).
  • In general, students will first take the foundation courses, and then the advanced courses and electives.
  • Courses listed below are one-semester courses except for EF5063 "Professional Seminars in Finance", which is a year-long course (3 credit units) that meets 1.5 hours every week in Semesters A and B.

# Students can choose two elective courses, either two finance electives or one finance elective and one other course offered by the Department or other departments in the College of Business, to suit students' interests and career development needs.

Important Notes

In general, core courses are offered only in Semester A or Semester B. Hence, students should check ahead of time what courses will be offered for the coming academic year to ensure that all the core courses can be completed on time and to meet graduation requirements.  

 

II. Elective Courses

Students can choose two elective courses, either two finance electives or one finance elective and one other course offered by the Department or other departments in the College of Business, to suit students' interests and career development needs. 

The College of Business consists of six departments.  Each of them offers "consortium courses" in the following areas which are open to all graduate students within the College:

Accounting
Accounting subjects at introductory level are open to our MSc students. Those with solid training in accounting may consider advanced postgraduate courses offered by the Department of Accountancy. For instance, courses in Financial and Management Accounting,  Financial Statement Analysis in Global Context, International Financial Statement Analysis, Auditing and Accounting Infomration Systems can be useful for those MSc students working in corporate finance, financial accounting, operational management and auditing.
Economics and Finance
Advanced courses in Economics, Banking, Finance and Financial Engineering offered by the Department of Economics and Finance can be taken as electives. These advanced courses will enable students to study in depth the subject areas. Students need to note the foundation knowledge required before enrolling in those advanced courses.
Information Systems
IS courses at introductory level is offered to all MSc students. Financial IT specialists may consider advanced IS courses, such as Business Data Alaytics, Analytical Programming with Python, Management Support and Business Intelligence Systems, Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship.
Management
The Department of Management offers courses in International Organizational Behavior, Strategic Management, Global Human Resources Management, Organizational Development and Change, etc. Interested students may consider these courses to enhance their management expertise.
Quantitative Analysis
Students with strong quantitative background may consider the following quantitative courses: Business Analytics with Spreadsheet and Python, Business Modeling and Simulation, Data Mining, Predictive Analytics with Excel and R. The Department of Decision Analytics and Operations offers these courses.
Services Marketing
Marketing professionals in the banking and finance sectors may consider the following courses: Marketing Strategy and Planning, Digital Marketing, Customer Relationship Management. The Department of Marketing offers theses courses.
