CityU Teams won the Championship and top five finalist in ACCA Hong Kong Business Competition

On November 16, 2013, our CityU teams won the Championship and top five finalist team in the final round for degree category in ACCA Hong Kong Business Competition 2013. Two teams from CityU were shortlisted as the top five finalist out of more than 260 teams from all universities and institutions and scored a place for presenting their proposals to the panel of judges on the stage. Contesting teams took up the role of business consultants to prepare a proposal based on a 2-year funding plan of HKD 1 million which aimed at providing elderly a “shop freely & serve friendly” shopping experience. Our students demonstrated the competence and excellent performance in front of the judging panel constituted by partners / directors from the Big Four and the senior executives of the social enterprises and social organizations.

The Champion Team of “CityU –Crescent Moon”, mainly coached by the Department of Accountancy, provided innovative ideas of mobile dental clinic services on elderly friendly social enterprise model.

Showing their outstanding business sense, creativity and knowledge, the “Crescent Moon” grasped a total of four prizes including:

  1. Championship Team (Trophy and Cash Prize of $6,000)
  2. Best Proposal Award Team (Cash Prize of $1,000)
  3. Best Presenter (Cash Prize of $1,000)
  4. My Favorite Team (voted by audience) - Special Gift

The synergy of successful triumph is composed by the following four students:

  • Miss Lee Hoi Ling Florence – BBA (Hons) Accountancy Year 3;
  • Miss Cheng Tsz Kwan – BBA (Hons) Marketing Year 2;
  • Mr Leung Kong Sang Gordon – BBA (Hons) Marketing Information Management Year 3; and
  • Mr Chan Yuk Leung Daniel – BBA (Hons) Management Science Year 2.

The objective of the ACCA Hong Kong Business Competition 2013 is to equip degree and sub-degree students with accounting knowledge, business and communication skills that are in significant demand with prominent employers today, the ACCA Hong Kong Business Competition is designed to simulate real-life experience in the business environment. By developing a sensible business proposal, participating students will learn how professional inputs made by accounting and business professionals can contribute towards the success of a business project.
