Introduction

From Semester A 2023/24, the Department of Accountancy will add a new “ESG and Tech” stream to the BBA Accountancy programme.

The impact of new technologies on the accountancy profession, corporate governance, risk management and regulatory compliance is becoming increasingly important. In response to the changing needs of the industry, the Department has endeavoured to create opportunities for undergraduate students to engage in interdisciplinary studies that enhance their learning experience and increase their employability.

The introduction of the “ESG and Tech” stream is intended to nurture talents to support the development of Hong Kong as a high value-added and diversified economy, contributing to the region’s strategic development. It is designed to provide students with an active learning environment in which they can develop skills in digital technology, data analysis, risk management and governance issues, in addition to fundamental accounting knowledge. It is expected that graduates of the new stream will be equipped to take advantage of the growing demand for technological knowledge and governance in the jobs market and pursue successful careers.

The New BBA Accountancy Curriculum

With the introduction of the “ESG and Tech” stream, our BBA Accountancy programme offers two streams. The Professional Accounting (PA) stream is designed to equip students with technical knowledge and professional skills for the profession. The ESG and Tech (ESGT) stream, as mentioned, is designed to equip students with digital technology, risk management and governance issues, in addition to the fundamental accounting knowledge. Students can choose a stream to meet their personal development, professional interests, and career progression plan.

Graduates of this programme (either PA or ESGT stream) are expected to gain full or partial exemption from the professional examinations depending on the accredited courses taken, either as major or elective courses.
