Professor Alvin Leung Chun-man, Associate Head in the Department of Information Systems at CB, has been awarded the CityUHK Teaching Excellence Award 2023/24 for his commitment to inspiring a passion for learning through innovative teaching methods.

Professor Leung's notable contribution is a gamification project designed to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment for students promoting collaborative learning and peer-to-peer interaction. Through team challenges and cooperative activities, students are encouraged to work together, share knowledge, and support one another's learning. Such collaborative interactions enhance the social aspect of learning, demonstrating Professor Leung's "Prosper in Sharing" teaching philosophy.

"By infusing playfulness and creativity into the learning process, my students engage in active exploration and experimentation,” Professor Leung explained.

“Playing is not just a form of entertainment but a valuable tool for learning. When students approach their education playfully, they embark on a journey of discovery, innovation, and intellectual growth."

The project enhances student engagement by incorporating various game elements such as points, badges, leaderboards, and progress tracking. These elements are designed to motivate students to participate, complete tasks, and comprehend key concepts. The leaderboard encourages competition, pushing students to excel and improve. The progress tracking feature helps students visualise their growth, reinforcing a sense of achievement.

The Teaching Excellence Award, introduced by CityUHK in 1993, honours outstanding teachers and promotes best teaching practice.
