
“Lunch & Learn – Banking & Finance” event was successfully organized on Nov 30, 2019, with nearly 50 attendees including alumni, students and staff of the Management Sciences Department (MS). Focusing on banking and finance industry, MS invited experienced industry speakers and alumni speakers who are senior management from international banks to share their distinguished insights and premier experiences with the audience. This industry focused event covered all-round topics with synergized content from the latest industry development, professional designation for career advancement extended to the updates of job market. The practical information and valuable experience sharing attracted overwhelming responses and positive feedbacks from the attendees, who also benefited exclusively from this event in many respects.
Ricky Chow, the CIO from an international bank as the first alumni speaker, introduced the noteworthy development of digital transformation, the new model of banking industry, the opportunities and challenges. Ricky specifically highlighted the talents and competence possessed by MS students, such as their strong business analytical skills and ability to present the values in addition to insights behind the data at business cases, are widely appreciated by employers of the industry.
Lawson Law, the Head of Analytics from a bank, spotlighted the trends of future banking and related analytics jobs. His sharing, particularly on the significance of solid foundation that paved one’s long-term career path, was indeed a driving force to the attendees.
Followed by alumni’s sharing, the second half of the event shed light on career development, featuring a promising picture to attendees on how to cultivate a successful path in the industry. Wilson Kwok from the Institute of Financial Technologists of Asia (IFTA) introduced IFTA and set forth the certificates and professional designations for career advancement. Fiona Hui from Hudson Asia covered the trends of job market and salary landscape of eFinancial sector.
