The China Business and Economic Development Research Centre aims to enhance the College of Business’s delivery of China-related business and economic development research studies, and provide a supporting platform for conducting high impact interdisciplinary research work. The Centre draws on research strengths from the expertise of all six member departments in the College of Business. Such synchronized collaborative research effort ensures a fruitful and promising development and outputs in various state-of-the-art research studies relating to china business and economic development research. The Centre is unique in the region being grounded in its strategic partnership with Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited (GPHL) and HNA Capital.
The Centre’s core functions comprise of industry-focused research activities aimed to enable the development of area-specific research topics in CB, and collaborative interdisciplinary research activities. Scholarly research exchange activities will include the dissemination of research findings in international academic and professional conferences, and the organization of conferences, seminars and workshops attracting prominent academicians and industry leaders. The Centre also aims to organize executive education and training programmes for its strategic collaboration partners. Teaching and learning initiatives will include strengthening the current DBA/EMBA/MBA curriculum, postgraduate and research student projects, as well as expanding internship opportunities. The Centre will also benefit the university-wide Discovery Enriched Curriculum providing real-world China business consulting projects for students, business talks and guest lectures, as well as acting as a resource for developing business cases studies for relevant courses.
The Centre’s deliverables will encompass research publications in high impact journal publications, international academic and professional conference presentations, as well as conferences and workshops aimed at encouraging academic knowledge exchange and dissemination of research findings. Executive development and enhancement will also be provided in the form of continued executive education programmes for HNA Capital, tailor-made executive training for other strategic collaboration partners, and all this is expected to contribute to the College of Business’s overall accreditation (AACSB, EQUIS) requirements. In terms of knowledge transfer and student learning the Centre will organize public lectures to advance knowledge transfer to the general public, create a set of theme-based research topics arising from DBA/IDBA student dissertations, publish the results of its findings in books, monographs, chapters or professional journals, and create full-time PhD studentships and postdoctoral positions.
