Four CityUHK students secure second place among over 2,700 teams worldwide through strategic trading and teamwork
A team of four talented students from the CityUHK College of Business has secured second place in the prestigious 2025 Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge. Hosted by Bloomberg for Education, the highly competitive event attracted 2,732 teams and 14,285 participants from universities worldwide, showcasing their financial expertise and trading strategies.
The award-winning team, named “P&L”, comprises Junle Li (BBA Global Business), Ka-ho Li (BBA Finance), Vincent Marcellino Pratama (BBA Business Economics/ Finance) and Clarence Bryan Sie (BSc Computational Finance and Financial Technology). Given a starting budget of $1 million USD, the team achieved a Relative Profit of +$3,686,713 within just five weeks of competition. They attended the award presentation ceremony at the Bloomberg Hong Kong Office in Central on 26 January 2026, where they were recognised for their outstanding achievement.

The Bloomberg Trading Challenge provides students with invaluable experience in financial markets through hands-on learning. Participants utilise Bloomberg's advanced technology and data tools to make informed trading decisions under simulated real-world conditions.
Junle Li from BBA Global Business reflected on their experience, "Participating in the Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge was an incredible journey into the heart of the financial markets. It allowed us to dive deep into market dynamics using Bloomberg’s world-class tools. Through equity analysis and continuous strategy optimisation, we turned our insights into impressive results. Beyond the numbers, this challenge taught us the importance of disciplined decision-making, strict risk management, and seamless teamwork under pressure."
Dr Zhengyu Cao, the team advisor, expressed pride in their accomplishment, "I am immensely proud of team P&L’s dedication, acumen, and resilience in this global competition. Their remarkable achievement demonstrates their deep understanding of financial markets and innovative trading strategies.
