The Department of Accountancy has acquired a leadership position in accounting education, professional training and accounting research in Hong Kong. The Department was established in 1984 toprepare undergraduate students for professional accountancy and company secretaryship. This original purpose has since been extended to include substantial research endeavour, and unique interdisciplinary programmes, and postgraduate programmes. The Department provides state-of-the-art accountancy education with a professional emphasis. By forging close links with the accountancy profession and business community in Hong Kong, the Department has attuned its mission in accounting education and research to the requirements of the marketplace. Its educational expertise encompasses the primary fields of professional accountancy - financial accounting, management accounting, auditing, taxation and financial management. Special attention is paid to the international dimensions of accounting, auditing and taxation including the relevant systems in the Chinese Mainland.

The Department promotes the all round development of the students through the implementation of the Whole Person Development programme. In 1999/2000, the Department was recognized by the University as one of the best teaching departments at CityU.
