Department of Accountancy|City University of Hong Kong

Research

Staff research is actively encouraged. Both large-scale and small-scale research grants are available within the University as well as outside the University, such as the competitive grants funded by the Government. We have been successful in obtaining numerous competitive research grants both from within and outside the University. Publications in internationally refereed journals are strongly encouraged as well as presentations at overseas conferences. Our Department is further strengthening its research in economic aspects of accounting, multinational and cross-cultural accounting, with a special focus in the Asia-Pacific region. Research seminars with eminent professors from well-known universities have become part of our regular activities. The Department has also founded an internationally refereed academic journal, the Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting, now replaced by Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting & Economics as of 2000.

In relation to outside practice, the Department has also engaged in offering extension programmes jointly with professional institutes and short executive training programmes for professional accountants. There are also opportunities for consulting and training in the finance, manufacturing and retail sectors in Hong Kong. An "industrial attachment" scheme is also available for staff to be attached to commercial, industrial or professional accounting firms to further enhance their practical accounting experience.
