Programme Details

Objectives

The objective is to familiarize students with what finance practitioners do in the commercial sector. Students will hopefully enhance their soft skills and build up competence in certain areas. Mentors could certainly give advice on job nature and career opportunities in the business/finance sectors.

Specific time schedule of whole programme

Professional mentors generally sign up for a three-year period. We hope volunteering mentors will be willing to serve for many more years to come. Mentors who find that they could not continue owing to, for e.g. overseas postings, may write to efgo@cityu.edu.hk.

  1. Year 1 and 2 students who sign up will be expected to stay with their designated mentor at least until they graduate.
  2. Year 3 students are expected to maintain links with their mentors after they graduate, subject to mutual agreement.

Mentoring Period

Mentoring is an ongoing process. It is of course up to mentors and students to continue on communicating after students have graduated. We do hope that mentors and student mentees will keep in touch for many more years to come, subject to mutual agreement.

Programme Majors of Students and Year of Study

Students presently in Years 1 to 3 are participating in this program. The majors offered by the Department are Finance, Business Economics and Quantitative Finance and Risk Management.
(Note: The Financial Engineering programme has been restructured as the Quantitative Finance and Risk Management programme and the final batch of Financial Engineering students will graduate in 2010).

No evaluation/progress reports are expected

We do not expect mentors or students to write reports. However, mentors and students are welcome to provide comments to the department on aspects of the mentoring program. The department will be conducting surveys to gather feedback from students and mentors on the mentoring programme with the aim of improving the program.
