Admission Requirements and Selection Criteria

We welcome students who want to pursue a career path where statistical data analysis has a significant role. We have very minimum math requirements for targeting students. However, the potential students are expected to have studied at least one undergraduate course in calculus or linear algebra. We welcome applicants who do not have any background in statistics and programming.

Graduates of non-English-speaking institutions should meet the following minimum English proficiency requirement:

*TOEFL Score

a score of 59 (revised paper-delivered test)^ or 79 (internet-based test);

*IELTS Score

6.5 (overall band score);

 CET6 Score

450;

Or equivalent

^Effective from 11 April 2021, the TOEFL revised paper-delivered test is no longer offered.

*TOEFL and IELTS scores are considered valid for two years. Applicants are required to provide their English test results obtained within the two years preceding the commencement of the University's application period.

The admission consideration is based on the candidate's academic performance in previous studies, relevant working experience (if any), and the candidate's motivation and potential.

Credit Transfer

Students with postgraduate training from a recognized university (including mainland institutions) can shorten their study via credit transfer. Credit transfer will be considered on a course-to-course basis and only for the core courses of the program. A maximum of 6 credit units can be transferred to the program.

Special Note to Mainland Applicants

To attract Mainland professionals to come to work in Hong Kong in order to meet local manpower needs and to enhance the competitiveness of local companies in the globalized market with a view to facilitating the economic development of Hong Kong, non-local students have obtained an undergraduate or higher qualification in a full-time and locally-accredited programme in Hong Kong may apply to stay/return and work in the HKSAR under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG).

Further information on this can be obtained from the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Government here.
