The Department of Economics and Finance at CityU is pleased to announce that Team Proactive, made up of four EF students Lau Kin Yin Kenneth (BBA in QFRM), Sin Yip Fung (BBA in QFRM), Lee Sze Ting Christy (BBA in Finance) and Wong Siu Yuk (BBA in Finance), was named 1st runner-up with a cash prize of $4,000 in the Hong Kong Undergraduate Financial Planners of the Year Award 2014 organized by the Society of Registered Financial Planners (HKRFP). The Awards Presentation Ceremony was held on November 15, 2014.
This year, 54 cases submitted by teams from Hong Kong and Macau universities took part in the competition.
In the first round of the competition, teams were required to submit a written financial proposal for a real-life case in details. Team Proactive made use of all the information provided in the case to build a realistic financial plan by assessing risks that may arise in the financial proposal. In the second round, teams were required to submit a videotaped oral presentation of their financial plans. The judges assessed their presentation skills by how clearly, systemically and effectively they presented their ideas. In the final round, the teams were required to give a presentation on a topical issue. The topic of this year was “How to manage political risk in financial planning?”
In addition, we are pleased to announce that Team Ace, Chong Hon Kit (BBA in BOM), Chan Kai Yin (BBA in MKT) and Fu Cheuk Yau (BBA in Finance), was awarded “Certificate of Excellent Presentation” for their outstanding presentation. Team Suble, Chan Kwan Lai (BBA in Finance), Heung Suen Tung (BBA in Finance), Lam Tsz Ho (BBA in Finance) and Lee Kwan Ngo (BBA in Finance), was awarded “Certificate of Merits” for their efforts in compilation for professional financial proposal.
The Department appreciates the efforts and time put in by our part-time lecturer, Dr. Stephanie Fan, in providing guidance to our students during the competition. We encourage our students to join these competitions to sharpen their skills as financial planners and learn from the critique of industry experts.
