CB3840 Consulting Co-op Programme

Aims & Objectives

CB3840 Consulting Co-op Programme is designed to provide students with a unique opportunity to participate in advisory and/or consultancy placement/internship to gain valuable hands-on experiences, practical understanding, and exposure to a diversity of business sectors. Through CB3840, students can integrate the knowledge acquired in classroom and apply it in real-world settings, and develop soft skills, acquire experience, and appreciate work ethics, integrity and professionalism, teamwork, group / organizational behaviour in a real work environment.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

  • Identify and practise the roles of advisory/consultancy professionals in the industry
  • Demonstrate the ability to integrate and apply knowledge and skills developed from classroom to real-world situation
  • Identify, demonstrate and practise the soft skills and values that are required at workplace for career development
  • Demonstrate integrity and professionalism in the fulfilment of all internship requirement

Course Structure

Students will be placed into a company or organization for not less than 6 months full-time internship during the academic terms. During the internship, students will submit a monthly log book and a mid-term progress report to help them identify adjustment issues in the workplace and ways to improve job performance. At the end of the internship, students are required to prepare and submit a report or final presentation to complete the programme.

CB3840 Consulting Co-op Programme
6 months (6 Credit Units, Two Semesters)

  • Semester B and Summer Term (January – June/August)
  • Summer Term and Semester A (July – December)

Course enrollment will be processed by College of Business after offer acceptance. Web registration by student is not required.

Internship Type: In-person

Remunerated: Yes

Eligibility: Non-final semester undergraduate students who are studying a full-time UGC-funded Bachelor's degree programme in the College of Business
This course can also be used to fulfil the internship / consultancy project / research project requirement.

Assessment

The course assessment is based on the following three components:


Mid-term progress report submitted by student(s) after 3 months of placement/internship
20%
Performance Evaluation: Feedback assessment on students’ job performance to be completed by hosting company 60%
Final presentation or report submitted by student(s) within 2 weeks after placement/internship is completed 20%
Total 100%

Pass/Fail grade will be assigned for the course.

Application

Eligible students will receive Email/CAP promotion from College of Business calling for student applications during the application period. For students who wish to register for the Co-op placement/internship under CB3840 should:

  1. Submit official application to the company; and
  2. Complete online application for College of Business (refer to mass email for application link)

Shortlisted students will be contacted by Career and Student Enrichment for internal interview prior to nomination.

Self-sourced Co-op placement/internship may be accepted if criteria are met subject to CB’s approval. Students are required to seek for CB’s course registration approval prior to commencement. 

Important Note: Please evaluate your study, exchange, and personal schedule carefully prior to application as early resignation and shortening of placement to under 6 months will not be accepted by the Co-op course under all circumstances.

This is to be signed by students confirming their course registration to CB3840 after offer acceptance to employers.

A student handbook with course requirement, assessment, co-op schedule, monthly training report template, mid-term progress report template, presentation criteria, End of Co-op Performance Evaluation Form, and Course Evaluation Form.
