The Department of Economics and Finance at CityU HK is pleased to announce that Team Stimulus, made up of three EF students -- Atishray Deepak Malhan (Business Economics), Sandeep Sharma (Business Economics) and Vipul Vigayavargiya (Finance), was awarded 1st runner-up with a cash prize of $4,000 in the Hong Kong Undergraduate Financial Planners of the Year Award 2016 organized by the Society of Registered Financial Planners (HKRFP). Vipul Vigayavargiya also won the Best Presenter Award of the year. The Awards Presentation Ceremony was held on November 19, 2016.
In addition, our Team Elites -- Wan Lai Wan (Finance), Yuan Zixuan (Finance) and Lau Sin Ting (Finance) -- was awarded 2nd runner-up with a cash prize of $3,000. Our team Blue Chip was also awarded a Certificate of Merits. Members of Team Blue Chip included Xinrui Zhang (Business Economics), Ling Yu (Business Economics), and Xuan Zhang (Business Economics).
Over 200 students from regional universities joined the competition. In the first round of the competition, teams were required to submit a written financial proposal for a real-life case in details. In the second round, teams were required to submit a video presentation of their proposal and slides based on the written proposal. The judges assessed their presentation skills by how clearly, systemically and effectively they presented their ideas. In the final round, the teams were required to present their arguments on a topical issue. The topic of this year was "In creating financial plans, how and why should financial planners account for the risks and opportunities associated with the US Presidential Election of 2016?".
The Department appreciates the efforts and time put in by our part-time lecturer, Dr. Stephanie Fan, in providing guidance to our students during the competition. We encourage our students to join these competitions to sharpen their skills as financial planners and learn from the critique of industry experts.
