After years of planning, the Department of Management Sciences was officially renamed to the Department of Decision Analytics and Operations (DAO) on 1 January 2025. This new name better reflects the department's expertise in the analytics field, with a strong emphasis on quantitative techniques, particularly in Statistics, Operations Research, and Operations Management.
A joyous inauguration ceremony was held on 15 January 2025 to commemorate this milestone. The event was well-attended by many, including members of the Departmental Advisory Committee (DAC) who are also alumni of the department, such as Mr. Raymond Yuen (CEO of MTR Australian Business), Mr. Kam-tim Chau (Deputy Commissioner of Census and Statistics Department of HKSAR), and Mr. Wilson Chong (Managing Director of Rightlink Technology). Joining them were Professor Kalok Chan (Dean of College of Business), as well as faculty and staff from the department and the College of Business.
During the ceremony, congratulatory speeches were delivered by Professor Kalok Chan (Dean of College of Business), Professor Frank Chen (Interim Head of the Department of Decision Analytics and Operations), and Professor Alan Wan (Associate Provost of Academic Affairs and former Head of the Department). They celebrated the department's new identity and encouraged the department to strive for even greater achievements in the years to come.
