Departmental setting The department of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences (IE &IS) engages in research and teaching in the area of industrial engineering and management science, as well as the innovation sciences. The mission of the department is closely tied to its pioneering work in developing an engineering perspective on business processes, as well as its interdisciplinary research on transitions in societies in relation to technical changes. At the heart of its academic philosophy is the synergy between research and teaching. The department offers an academic environment in which scholars and students work on critical problems at the interface of engineering, management and innovation. The department has two schools: Industrial Engineering (IE) and Innovation Sciences (IS). The school of Industrial Engineering focuses on the design, behavior and performance of operational and innovation processes in industrial and service organizations, particularly those in the high-tech industries and the healthcare sector. It covers the complete business chain of product design, process design, production, purchasing, outsourcing, distribution and marketing & sales. The School of Industrial Engineering currently includes the following research groups: • Human Performance Management; • Information Systems; • Operations Planning, Accounting & Control; • Innovation, Technology Entrepreneurship & Marketing. The position of the visiting position is part of the Operations Planning, Accounting & Control (OPAC) group. Due to the growth of the activities of the group, it is expected that in September 2014 a tenure-track position in this field will be opened. Prior to opening the tenure-track position, there is an immediate opening for a non-tenure track visiting position. If appointed as a visiting assistant professor, the candidate will be considered with priority to fill the tenure-track position per September 2014. Operations Planning, Accounting & Control group OPAC consists of 4 full professors, 1 associate professor, 13 assistant professors, 8 postdoctoral fellows, and about 20 PhD students. Further, the group offers university-wide elective courses in the areas of engineering economics and finance. Three faculty members currently take responsibility of teaching these courses. They also conduct research in the interface area between operations management and finance, in areas such as supply chain finance, commodity pricing, and real options. The group positions itself as a coherent research group that conducts research with a strong position in finance and accounting that is embedded in a research group with a focus on Operations Management. Research The visiting assistant professor performs active research on the interface between Operations Management and Finance or Accounting, collaborates with current faculty and postdocs, takes part in funded research projects, and publishes on her research in academic journals. If the position is filled as a visiting lecturer, she takes part in funded research projects but there is not an active publication requirement. Teaching The visiting assistant professor teaches 2-3 courses in the undergraduate program per year, and supervises BSc and MSc students on their thesis work. If the position is filled as a visiting lecturer, the course load remains the same, but the number of projects to supervise will be higher. Tasks • Participate in research projects in the OPAC group on the discussed domains. • Supervise M.Sc. and B.Sc. students in their projects. • Perform autonomous teaching and co-teaching at the B.Sc. and M.Sc. levels. Requirements • Ph.D. in Operations Management, Econometrics, or Operations Research, with substantive graduate (preferably at the PhD level) course work taken in accounting and/or finance.
