Supply Chain Management

An introduction of fundamental principles of value creation for the consumers or the market.  Effective supply chain management requires the firm to have strong operations capabilities.

Students will get an understanding of the supply chain complexities that companies are facing in today's global business environment.  They will learn about how the product or service is made, how the value-creating activities or functions are coordinated, who should play what leadership roles in realizing all these, and so on.  Students will learn what a supply chain is, what supply chain management is all about, and why it is important to grasp the fundamentals of supply chain management in creating real value for the customers.

Predicting the Results of Premier League Football Matches by Basic Probability Theory

The English Premier League (EPL) came to the end of the season, BBC broadcasting producers asked statisticians to produce predictions for the last 10 matches by using statistical method that could be explained to non-specialist listeners.

This course aims to building statistical model with the help of familiar concepts derived from the raw data and basic probability theory to make predictions for the last 10 matches of the EPL.

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to explain basic probability theory and apply standard statistical software to analyse data arising from real-life problems.

Forward-Looking Taxation Policies

This workshop will guide participants to discover the role of taxation in modern society, and its relevance to individual’s daily life. Specifically, the workshop will discuss the importance of taxation around the world, and explain how the government raises and spends public dollars via taxation (and other relevant fiscal) policies. The workshop will also provide participants opportunities to critically analyze, and express opinions thereon the impacts of existing and potential taxation policies, and guide them to explore a variety of social topics arisen from public dollars collection and spending. Participants’ sense of citizen responsibility will also be increased via analyzing various tax- and public-related issues.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants should be able to explain the multidisciplinary and forward-looking nature of taxation around the world, and critically analyze the relevance of government tax policies with society.

Visual Analysis using Python

This course provides a foundation in data visualization in Python. Topics covered include basic python, customizing graphics, plotting two-dimensional arrays (e.g., pseudocolor plots, contour plots, images, etc.), and statistical graphics (e.g., visualizing distributions & regressions).

Students will learn:
- Coding python
- Use graph to present the data
- Pattern finding on the graph

It is believed that big data will have a major impact on every single business today, as data collection, data analysis and visualization are becoming readily accessible. For example, companies have websites, social media presences, business transactions and the customers, with big data analytics, they can have better insights on what customer wants and what channels customers use, etc.

This workshop is for those who are interested to know what big data is, and how big data can help the business make smart decisions with customers using business intelligence.  It is also for those who want to think about how big data can be useful for them to plan the careers of the future.
