Dear Colleagues, Students, Alumni,

I am proud to announce the results of the College of Business Distinguished Alumni Award 2020, which aims to recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions of our distinguished alumni to their professions, the University and society.

The five award winners for 2020 are:

  • Dr Chordio Chan — Doctor of Business Administration in Banking, 2019
  • Mr William Pang — BBA (Hons) in Service Operations Management, 2008
  • Ir Susanna Shen — Executive Master of Business Administration, 2004
  • Dr Shengjun Yan — Doctor of Business Administration (International), 2016
  • Ms Paula Yang — BA (Hons) in Business Studies, 1996

Dr Chordio Chan is currently Head of Investment at Bank of China (Hong Kong). Working initially for Citibank Hong Kong, Dr Chan began his banking career three decades ago. He oversees BOCHK’s global investment strategy as well as balance sheet and liquidity management. He worked previously as Head of Treasury at Citibank Hong Kong. Dr Chan was a key member in launching CNH HIBOR fixing in the offshore RMB market under his active role at the Treasury Markets Association "TMA". Over the years he has provided extensive services to the community, serving amongst others as Executive board member of TMA, Chairman of the Market Practices Committee of TMA, Chairman of the Market Standard Committee under The Hong Kong Association of Banks and Deputy Chairman, Leveraged Foreign Exchange Trading Arbitration Panel of Securities and Futures Commission. He also sits at the Policy Research Committee of The Financial Services Development Council. Dr Chan graduated with a DBA from City University in 2019 and holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Mr William Pang is a 2008 BBA graduate of City University majoring in Service Operations Management (SOM) and has more than 10 years of experience in the banking industry. He is currently the Vice President of Credit Suisse AG, specialising in anti-money laundering and in providing transnational views in financial crime and terrorist financing. As an alumnus of CityU, Mr Pang looks to contribute towards the nurturing of graduates by engaging in departmental activities such as industrial mentoring, and sharing his experience in public talks and workshops. He has recently taken up a role as the external member of the Management Sciences Departmental Advisory Committee. Mr Pang is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (ACAMS) and HKIB Certified AML Professional (CAMLP).

Ir Susanna Shen, FHKIE, FHKCS, MBCS CITP, EMBA, is Head of Corporate IT, at The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Ltd (Towngas). She has headed Towngas’ IT department since 2005 and has been the forerunner in the adoption of advanced technology. The IT team under Susanna’s leadership is responsible for providing Towngas Group’s IT services and solutions to support the business mission of Towngas and its subsidiaries as well as its Mainland businesses.  Susanna serves on various advisory committees in the public sector and also universities and professional bodies. She has been the Chairperson of CIO Board, HK Computer Society since 2017.  She has been recognised with various awards during her career tenure; the most recent one is the honoree recognition as one of the 35 global Women Leaders in AI organised by IBM in 2020.

Dr Shengjun Yan, founder of China Tianying Inc. (CNTY), graduated from City University of Hong Kong in 2016 and was recently named as “2020 China Economic News Person” (2020中國經濟新聞人物). Since the establishment of CNTY in 1996, Dr Yan has been deeply committed to the environmental protection industry, and today CNTY is the world’s fourth largest company in this industry. In response to China's "Belt and Road Initiative," Dr Yan has worked at integrating resources on a global level, attaching great importance to green development and building a state-of-the-art industrial ecosystem. Under Dr Yan’s leadership, CNTY has donated large quantities of personal protection equipment and funds in the fight against COVID 19, fulfilling corporate social responsibilities.

Ms Paula Yang first enrolled at City Polytechnic in 1993, and graduated in 1996, the last year of the Bachelor of Arts in Business Studies at City University of Hong Kong. Ms Yang began her career as a media executive with FCB Hong Kong. She then joined PCCW IMS in 1999, taking part in the first generation of digital business players in Hong Kong. Paula sharpened her digital knowledge and experience through roles as Chief Business Manager of on.cc, Digital Head of Dentsu Media Hong Kong, and General Manager of NDN Group. Ms Yang shares the same thriving spirit as CityU, and was named “Digital Marketer of the Year 2018” by the Hong Kong Association of Interactive Marketing.  Over the years, she has been consistently supportive of our student development.
