Biography

Dr. Rengong (Alex) Zhang’s research uses big data to study workplace safety, labor, and capital market issues. He has recently published in the Journal of Finance and Quantitative Analysis, Organization Science, Journal of Operations Management, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, and European Accounting Review. His research has been covered by media outlets such as S&P Global, National Affairs, and Souhu.

Dr. Zhang teaches Contemporary Accounting Issues, which combines data analytics with ESG topics. He has been invited as a guest speaker at the education forums organized by HKUST and CUHK respectively. His teaching innovations have been developed into a showcase by CityU. 

Dr. Zhang was a recipient of a large UGC grant to integrate big data with ESG. He is co-leading the establishment of Asia's first ESG analytics lab under the grant "Sustainability Meets Technology: A Novel Approach of Sustainability Education through a Student-led ESG Analytics Platform" (IICA-TDG, amount $985,099, from 2023-2025). 

Professionally, Dr. Zhang was a guest speaker on Fintech and investment at reputable financial institutions in Hong Kong.
