Internships

Internship Booth and Thanksgiving Reception cum Prize Presentation Ceremony

On March 26-27, 2015 the AC Department held a new event: the “AC Internship Booth: Potential to Professional.” The event promoted the well-structured AC Internship Program and was an opportunity to acknowledge and thank all those who make this program a success. The Internship Booth featured the work of a number of student interns, including video clips, story books, posters, etc., recounting their internship learning experiences.

On March 26, a Thanksgiving Reception and Prize Presentation Ceremony was held to express the Department’s gratitude to its internship partners for their support and for the guidance they give to students. It was also a great opportunity for students to seek professional advice from company representatives and to meet with prospective employers.

The theme of the exhibition was “Potential to Professional” and it encompassed the 5 Ps: People, Practice, Professionalism, Perspective, and Path. Prof. Cheong-heon Yi, Associate Head of the AC Department, stated in his opening remarks, “Students met wonderful people in the workplace; they applied school learning to practice; they learned professionalism; they accelerated their learning from multiple perspectives; and they started on their career path. Thanks to the internship, they have found in themselves the potential to be future business professionals.”

During the Prize Presentation Ceremony, 17 interns were granted the Best Intern of the Year Award, which recognizes outstanding performance and hard work. The top three Best Interns were interviewed by the AC Department.

  1. How would you describe your internship?

Fruitful. I have gained more than I had hoped. I was given a lot of opportunities to explore the audit industry.

  2. What did you learn the most through the internship?

For one thing, it was a great opportunity to learn through practice, which cannot be experienced in the classroom; you are dealing with real business on behalf of the firm. For another, the internship strengthened my communication and time management skills.

  3. What were the most important factors in your exceptional performance in the internship?

I always remember the motto of my secondary school: "Try my best to reach my crest." This always reminds me to have a reflective attitude. After each job engagement, I always tried to talk to my job coach to obtain some feedback and to reflect on what I had done well and what I had to improve. The other important factors are communication skills and a calm mind. I remember that my first client was very tough but I still managed to complete my job successfully. Through these experiences, I have recognized the importance of good communication skills and being a professional with a calm mind.

  4. How did the internship impact on your career planning and graduate employment?

Due to my internship experience, I was able to discuss meaningful practical experiences with the partners in the interview. I really thank the AC Department for providing us with the opportunities to learn business practices while studying. Also, the Internship Program is a credit-bearing course, so in addition to gaining work experience, it also supports our academic performance.

  1. How would you describe your internship?

Extraordinary. This is due to the opportunities I had to be in touch with the real world, to strengthen my interpersonal skills, and to expand my social network.

  2. What did you learned the most through the internship?

The internship shaped my career aspiration. Before the internship, I was unsure whether my future career would be in accounting. Therefore, the internship was an opportunity for me to find out. Surprisingly, I found auditing to be quite interesting and I have now decided on a career in auditing once I graduate. I have since accepted an offer from one of the Big 4 firms.

  3. What are the most important factors in your exceptional performance in the internship?

Being open-minded is really important. Through trying, anything is possible.

  1. How would you describe your internship?

Unforgettable. My colleagues at PWC were very supportive and sociable. They always offered a helping hand.

  2. What did you learn through the internship?

Professional growth and communication skills. Through the internship, I learned to behave and speak properly in a formal setting. I am so thankful for the opportunity.

  3. What advice would you give to future interns?

My advice is to face the challenges when you are in an internship and learn from these challenges. It is definitely a worthwhile experience.
