About the Conference
What is the “new normal” after the recent global financial crisis? By now, the “new normal” carries a multitude of meanings and reflects the changes triggered by the crisis. Some versions of the new normal are, for example, the slow and protracted recovery process, the de-leveraging of the balance sheets of households, governments and financial institutions, the new global economic and monetary architectures, the coupling and decoupling of developed and developing economies, the surge in global liquidity following unprecedented quantitative easing, and the challenging financial market conditions under the unconventional central bank policies.

To put the various post-crisis developments in perspective, we invite researchers to present their original work on the new normal in the real economy and global financial markets. We would like to strike a good balance between academic rigor and policy relevance, and offer alternative viewpoints on the multiple versions of the new normal after the crisis.

Those interested in presenting at the conference should send a complete paper or an extended abstract in WORD or PDF format via email to jimf2015@cityu.edu.hk by January 10, 2015. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by February 10, 2015. Final versions of the accepted papers will be posted on the conference website (https://www.cb.cityu.edu.hk/ef/events/upcoming/JIMF2015/).

Selected papers presented in the conference will be considered – via a fast track review process – for a JIMF special issue titled “The New Normal in the Post-Crisis Era,” which is scheduled to be published in early 2016. Co-editors are Joshua Aizenman (JIMF), Yin-Wong Cheung (CityU, HK), and Jakob De Haan (DNB).
